Starting in 2014, MLB will expand their replay reviews to almost all calls by the umpire, except for balls and strikes and a few other unnamed situations. Each manager is given 3 challenges per game, 1 to use in the first six innings and then 2 from the 7th inning through the conclusion of the game.
Right now, replay reviews last on average about 3 minutes and 4 seconds, but a new system is being put in place and they hope** to cut that time down to 75 seconds.
Thoughts? Not sure what I think, baseball is a game of failure and that includes the umpires. Controversial calls just feel like part of the game, but in the end you just want the game to be called right. IMO, if some of the old umpires got their heads out of their asses and embraced the technology we have today and actually went back and watched video of their games and improved themselves, maybe this would be less of an issue.
I'm also worried about the flow of the game, but if MLB is true to their word and cuts down the replay time, then this could be a good system.
