Players only had control over one of those.

I agree but I also feel like stats can't be evaluated in a vacuum from that era either

Most of the historic getting starters ared from pre 1920 prior to the live ball era. Then that hits and the hitting statistics blow up and you start seeing some eye popping stats there. The American league average jumped from .248 to .293 in a very short time.

So yea the differentials there are pretty startling. And not taken into account like Roids are for whatever reason.

And I'm not saying among this group persay but in general

@Nosferatu dude you're everywhere lol...I just read this:

"Bonnie Tyler believed "Total Eclipse of the Heart" was about desperately wanting love. However, the heartbreaking ballad is really a vampire love song that was meant for the musical, "Nosferatu." Jim Steinman, the songwriter and producer, said the song’s original title was "Vampires in Love."

If anyone listens to the lyrics, they're really like vampire lines. It's all about the darkness, the power of darkness and love's place in dark," says Steinman. Thanks to Steinman and Tyler, millions of fans sang along to a vampire love song. The song topped the UK Singles Chart. In the US, the single ranked at No. 1 for four weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1983."

I just wish we got a Meatloaf version which is who the song was originally written for.

Kind of how I wish there was a recorded Prince Version of "Manic Monday" by the Bangles.

I am sure most of the players were registered voters...so I wouldn't say they didn't have some control over the other :P

That had absolutely nothing to do with it.

Again I'm sure it was taken as offense but I don't feel it was given a real opposing opinion

Does no one see a problem with such a seismic jump from 1917 to 1922?

We are talking league average ERA's jumping from 2.6 to 4.1 in five years

So yes starting pitchers pre live ball have absolutely dominant ERA stats. But what does that look like era to era?

And yes the talent pool wasn't near what it is today or as de-segregation was full force and a generation old.

That's just how I see it. No the players didn't control that but it's still a fact. And we are still comparing apples to asparagus here.

I guess a nice point would be the popularity of the NBA and NFL may pull some otherwise talented baseball players to other leagues similar to how boxing has declined
