Sounds alot like the guy we already have aside from the drafted in the first round part.
Here's the mock draft that had us taking Trubisky at #17. It's insane, especially given the d-linemen and pass rushers still on the board then. If we tag Cousins, he's going to, according to Joel Corry, immediately sign it again. If so, we'll still have up to July 15 in which to ink him to a long term deal. The draft falls about mid-way between tagging him and July 15, so I doubt we'd draft a QB, especially in the first round, to upset the apple cart on that.

If we did that, I would be hard pressed to say this was not a move made simply because some in the front office dont see Cousins as a long term option. It would also basically be saying we are starting over at the Qb position. And yea there would be some who would call this a master stroke.
I believe that it would say a lot more than that, specifically, that there was indeed an internal fight between Coach who put his first NFL coaching stint on the line when he went with Kirk vs. a General manager who has now usurped the coach's ability to roll with the guy that he wants. I believe that someone will make the call other than these two (likely Bruce) and in doing so send a loud and clear message that either the coach will have to adjust to the players that the GM gets for him or that the GM is no longer needed.
Sounds like what you are hinting at is the GM doesnt want said named coach and is willing to sabotage said named coach in order to get who he wants in place. While not out of the realm of possibility, would likely be the worst possible move from a team standpoint. Especially as the same GM backed the coach to start his guy over the owners wishes in the first place.

I agree. Everyone wants the same thing. A winning franchise and another SB trophy. I can't believe anyone is concerned about who brought a player or coach in, or when. They only care if the can help achieve the main objective. To win.I believe that everyone is reading way too much into things here. By all accts even Cousins and mgmt. get along pretty well. I also believe that nobody in the organization wants instability & doesn't want to start all over again. This team just went over .500 for 2 consecutive seasons for the 1st time in ages. Do you truly believe that they want to start all over again & roll the dice? That makes no sense.
Just wait & let this thing play out - I will be shocked if Cousins doesn't have a new long term deal sometime within the next several months.
Sounds like a lot of supposition here...but let me quote a dear friend who recently wrote.....
"If my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle. Until you've got a hypothetical that has some real legs, you can postulate a zillion things in the form of one."

Yeah, not signing Kirk a year ago does have long lasting ramifications doesn't it? On the other hand Gruden was not a SM selection either. Now I still think that it can work out in a way that everyone stays put, but that requires at minimum the HC relinquishing some previously held power. We all like the hiring of a new GM and the relative order that he's bought with him which leads to a pretty good question......what do you believe to be the way things are set up in Ashburn? My thinking is, it's supposed to be,
Owner/Prez hires GM>>>>>
GM hires (signed off on this one) Coach and acquire players>>>>>
Coach decides who makes rosters and plays.
