Sounds like the Seahawks are staying with zone blocking then.

Don't know much about him. Not exactly an amazing legacy of OLs he has been around for the past few years. But that isn't always the best way to judge position coaches.

OL coach for the Seahawks back in 2008. He was the first to introduce zone blocking to the Seahawks.

Very excited about solari, he coached the 9ers when they had that dominant OL under harbough.

And absolute shit of an OL in NY last year. You're actually excited about this if you think the Hawks OL was bad last year, just look at NY under Solari.

he had a long sting in KC where they were pretty good for most of it.

outside of the 1 year he had here on a crap team and 2 years in NY with a crap team, he has a pretty good record.

Ok, hold on. Do you realize what you've said here isn't 100% negative doom & gloom?

Kind of surprising. If I'm correct, I read that Brian Schottenheimer is a power-run scheme guy.

I recall that Solari was pretty effective with the 49ers during his time there. To be frank, I can't remember much about his previous time here. Honestly anything is an upgrade over Cable, though.

i think solari is a great OL coach, we should all be pretty happy about hiring him.

If he can coach these guys up and at least get the line to rank 16-20 by end of next year, our offense could be putting up some points. Plus RW won't be running for his life on every pass play.

you can always judge a coach all the time by some of their bad situations. The mess in NY was really starting with Macadoo. They really didnt invest in the run game they did use a 4th or 5th round pick on a back and give them like 10 carries a game but they were all invested in the pass game and when Odell and Marshall both went down along with a bad start I honestly thought they just gave up on the season.

I think he may do alright. What I would really like to see is the team shuffle some things around to sign one of the FA's for the right side opposite Duane Brown and dump Ifedi's sorry ass. That alone would improve the line play immensely and cut down the penalty totals substantially. Can't be worse than Cable's record here. As for the Giant thing, I don't put a lot of stock into that. The Gmen were just a god awful team, period. 2016 was a little bit of luck, imo. Solid defense, weak schedule, etc. Of course, going back to the San Fran record, he did have some all pro linemen to work with so one has to take that with a grain of salt as well. Probably somewhere in between those extremes is where we should look.

Gregg Bell describes his philosophy as a power zone, not the same zone blocking scheme as Cable. According to him, he relies on large body guards that primarily do man on man and has zone elements more in the tackles. He had some fairly strong data about the current line doing better the few times they did more man up looks in the middle.

This unit really is the one spot on the team with the least to lose. That is, it really can't get a whole lot worse can it? If Solari at the very least will adapt to the players he has and not be a stubborn it's a win. If he doesn't try to convert basketball players into NFL caliber linemen with pure on the job training it's a win.

They have invested quite a few draft picks on this line that have mostly turned into pure busts. The bigger question moving forward is who will be evaluating line talent. Both for bringing in potential veterans and draft wise. This area must improve to see any gains.

Way too early to give up on Ifedi. Remember how everyone around here wanted to trade Britt for a case of sweat-socks not too long ago.

Meh, on the 'convert basketball players' line. Fant was showing a LOT of promise. And it's not like he'd not have preferred to have the team spend 1st rounders every year a la' the Cowboys, but they simply weren't doing that. So necessity the mother of invention and all that...

I still think assuming Fant comes back healthy, and Pocic continues to progress, the line could go from a horrible weakness to a strength real quickly.
