Maybe trotting Reyes out there vs the Dodgers was the last straw? Probably not.
It's probably something else.

I liked Shildt more than Matheny. I feel like we've turned into the Texas Longhorns and firing decent people but maybe they have someone better in the pipeline. I can't imagine that they're hiring someone from a different organization.

Very strange timing. It will be a very difficult situation for a new manager to handle Yadi during his last year.

Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak cited "philosophical differences" to explain Shildt's dismissal. He declined to expand on those differences, saying the move was "something that popped up recently."

Shildt went 22-6 in August as an interim back in 2018 to get the job and went 22-7 in September of 2021 to make the Wild Card. 31 games over .500 in those two stretches. 17 games over .500 for the entire rest of his tenure. Went 4-9 in the playoffs which might be a black mark but I think the Cardinals were underdogs in every single series which points more towards the GM than the Coach.

He should find a job somewhere as long as he doesn't have 'Gruden emails' type of issues.

Mozeliak wants to be president, general manager AND manager.

He's not good at any of them.

He must have a pic of DeWitt fucking a goat.

Stubby Clapp or Pop Warner will be the new manager.

I think he has been okay given the fact that the Cardinals never tank. I do think Goldschmidt has mostly bailed him out, though, because if it weren't for him I think he'd be on the hook way more than Shildt.

Its not Shildt's fault that Dexter Fowler didn't work out. That Matt Carpenter did a nosedive. Ozuna didnt work out. Lance Lynn isnt on the team.

Reading some stuff on the net, rumors.

Shildt got fired over the phone.
Disagreement was Schildt had been wanting the hitting coach gone.

This firing makes no sense. Shildt won't be out of job for long if he's interested in managing next season. Would really like to know what happened behind the scenes. Too bad the Cards organization won't go into more detail.

That might have something to do with the 'philosophy' changes thing. Shildt was hired, though, because of the 'Cardinals way' so I think this is Mozeliak flexing.

I will say that this is a very important year for the Cardinals. If Shildt was taking the team the wrong direction then let him go. I'm just not sure a hitting coach is enough to fire a guy but maybe Im being naïve.

The only thing I've seen by way of explanation was on the pre-game show last night. I forget who it was, but one of them said that they think it was over the use of analytics. FO wanted to use them and Shildt didn't.

If it was overuse of analytics by the hitting coach on launch angle and other bullshit I could believe it.
I blame Jeff Albert for lack of team hitting by him trying to change people.

Any other scenario I'll call bullshit.
