Which aging veteran would you rather have as your top reserve in standard head-to-head mixed leagues?

Neither unless very deep league.

Cain by a hair, despite the injury, based on SB hope.

I wouldn’t want either on the bench.

Miggy will prolly get a few starts at first. But right now he’s only a DH. I don’t want a back up DH.

But I’m starting him in dynasty. Until somebody provides me with enough confidence to cut him and move on.

.279/.356/.449 is rather optimistic for someone who's hit .267/.342/.406 over the last four seasons. The last time he met that projection was 2018, and he only played 38 games.

Cabrera doesn't even get drafted in my 18 team league.

Excuses for Miggy from the last four seasons:

2017: He just sucked and had some bad luck on balls in play
2018: Was hitting the ball well before being shut down by injury
2019: Was fat and sluggish
2020: The COVID year

If he could provide 23 HR/80 RBI with a full season of at-bats and a .270-ish average it would be huge, because I got Yordan Alvarez somewhat an injury risk in front fo him.

I wouldn't have either as a reserve and I am in 2 30 team/50 player leagues, Tapia, Hampson or Hillard in COL over both, zero upside

in a dynasty league, not a chance, but that's the only leagues I am in. No position eligibility this year sealed it now for almost every format. Still a HOFer, I wouldn't take Pujols either.

I actually disagree with that statement. I like having some old player name value on my dynasty teams. If they find beginning of season success you can trade them for a kings ransom.

but seeing the dynasties you do. As I am now in them I can see your point. The problem in ours is that you have to give him a contract. Chances are he won’t be a cheap contract. But if you can get him for a small contract he is kind of a win win situation.

Miggy, Pujols, madbum, etc picks, people pay higher for past performances rather than future performances and their name adds more than they are actually worth. Their numbers have a consistant decline., look at past HOFer careers and you will see a pattern. Its normal in the cycle of fantasy of all the great players. There are exceptions, what Verlander, Grienke and Nelson Cruz has done is extremely rare but could fall off a cliff any second.

absolutely. But again. If they find beginning of season success. You can trade them for real value. People are more likely to believe in a hof who is having a good start than any random player.

I mean if 25 games in and miggy is having a good season. You could definitely trade him for future picks or good(not great) prospects. Wouldn’t be surprised if you can get a Corbin carrol type.

great point on trade bait, you dead on right. if you have a few suckers in the league. I sorta gave up doing that and just went with getting new call ups, they are good enough to make it to the majors where as some higher prospects don't. I just changed my approach over the years with my trading, i figured out how to win without screwing over another team to see if I could win that way. Both work.

I did last year... But not this year... hard to trust a rebound on one of the worst teams in baseball... if this was the giants still then maybe...

I almost did a few years ago but noticed that the other 2 sfg big guns fell off a cliff from over use too, ended up keeping Graterol in the deal instead.

I was banking on the short year giving a healing process. Team and division certainly do not help. I’ll take the lumps. I jumped in on Kluber too. That outlook seems more promising.
