because its going to be the best hockey we see in a while.

Oilers send Nugent-Hopkins, Eberle, Shultz etc down to Okhlahoma. Hall would be eligible to go, but he's still considered injured. That could be a phenomenal team in the A.
Hodgson, Henrique, Kassian, Johansen are some other big names already assigned.

agreement between CHL & NHL says that junior players who played in the NHL last year (even a < 10 game tryout) can also play in the AHL. So guys like Scheifele and Huberdeau could be there as well.

Actually Huberdeau didn't play a single regular season game in the NHL last year. He's been sent back to junior for the time being. He's expected to make the Panthers this year but I think the longer this thing goes, the more likely they may decide to just keep him in junior for the year and delay him becoming an RFA and eventually UFA by 1 year. He's still pretty lanky looking anyway.

Remember how the last lockout really seemed to do wonders for a lot of prospect's development? If I'm a glass half full guy, I'm hoping the same happens with Smith, Tatar, Nyquist, Jurco, etc.

If he was eligible to play in the AHL then it really surprises me that he was sent back to the OHL. If the lockout goes long enough (and maybe even if it doesn't) he and Huberdeau will no doubt play in the World Juniors. But I have to wonder if RNH will be released from his AHL team to play. I'm guessing not. What a sick line those 3 could be!

Who is eligible to play in the AHL and who isn't? Other than junior players that is since that's already been discussed. Jeff Skinner is still young but he's pretty much an established NHLer. What's to stop guys like Crosby from playing in the AHL?

other than the junior guys, I think you need to be on a two-way deal to be eligible to go to the AHL
so ironically, Wade Redden may be locked out of that league too.

I think thats pretty much it.
Skinner (though he just signed an extention) and Faulk are still on their entry deals.

2012/2013 Minor League Hockey Thread.

Seeing as we won't have the NHL this year, I think we should have a minor league thread. I plan on going to many games, especially since the price is right. So be sure to chime in during the season and post about your local team(s). Mass has a few teams like Worcester, Springfield, and Lowell to name some, and Providence is about 30 minutes or so away for the Bruins top minor league team. Oh, and I asked dash to sticky this thread for the season unless some object. Enjoy the games everyone. They be the only ones we have this season.

Good idea wayne, we need a central repository for AHL-related chatter. Good chance that some of the Vancouver based boys will make a road trip to Abbotsford for a Heat game (especially when the Wolves (Canucks AHL team) play the Heat).
