He said that he would not negotiate during the season and that he would file for free agency after this season if a deal wasn't struck before opening day. There were a lot of rumors that he wasn't really interested in staying with the Mets, as he turned down 10/$325MM recently. I guess the other $16MM did the trick.

Baseball really needs a correction from this standpoint. These contracts are dumb

Lindor is a really good player, but I wouldn’t expect him to remain elite beyond the next 5-6 years. And I wouldn’t want to guarantee 10 years to ANYONE. It’s ridiculous.

MLB’s collective bargaining agreement expires at the end of this season. It is going to get UGLY. The union and the owners hate each other.

Its unfortunate. Theyre way apart and the sport cannot afford a strike or lockout. The NFL and NBA have much more uniformity for the sports future thqn MLB does. And they also have a cap. Baseball needs a total overhaul from a contractual standpoint imo

I am not advocating for players or anything but these types of deals only happens to like less than 1% of players. Every free agency its always a fight between players and teams trying to get paid and GMs are playing hard ball not to mention players are made less attractive when they have a pick compensation attached to them and teams have to give up 1st or 2nd round picks to sign those players. I wouldn't highlight what Lindor got which is pretty uncommon compared to the majority of normal players trying to get paid during free agency.
