He is a gifted scorer, but the game is about efficiency.

If he were a free agent and signed for the mid-level exception, then absolutely, I would consider it.
But, not for that price tag.
Next year is vital for our future contracts and for potentially signing a marquee FA.

True. That $28 million number next year is what would ultimately kill the idea for me. Melo just isn't worth that kind of cash at this point in his career (arguably, he may never have been worth that.)
