It’s probably wrong or bad of me to say this but, even though I think the World of Bo and crew, I can see that as a unit, we have a long way to go to get even close to the teams we had in the 90’s. This team has talent, it has come along way from a few years ago, but the emotional maturity is just not there. I can not explain it, but it appears that our team is just going through the motions rather then to have any sort of killer instinct.

Years past, it was just a matter of (who we were), that made us go out and play each game to get better. It was not the opponent that mattered, but the end result of how we felt after the game. 60 minutes of concentration, effort and attitude!

I believe we presently have a good team and will continue to get better in the near future, but if we do not learn the lesson of (getting better every week regardless of the opponent), the pollsters will continue to doubt our abilities just as many of our own fans do!

Do I have doubt about our team?

NO; not in the sense that I think we can play with anyone!

But the optimal word in my previous sentence is (THINK). In the past the word (THINK) would have been (KNOW).

We have (2 regular season games left and possibly a Big 12 Championship game, then a Bowl Game.

I know our “D” played a solid game and we won…. BUT

For me, the last two weeks have left me feeling unsatisfied!

It’s time to open the flood gates and let things rip with 100% effort, emotion and attitude, LEAVING NO DOUBT THAT WE CAN PLAY WITH ANYONE!!!

Go Big Red!

I have been really happy with the intensity that the D has brought lately........but I agree there is a lack of passion in some areas. Primarily I am focusing right now on the offensive line.

People keep wanting to say that in today's world of college football no team can put together a line as dominate as Nebraska's offensive lines from the 90s, because "all teams are just getting the same size and caliber of guys now."

I think that is a bunch of BS...........I want to see our lineman blowing guys up 100% of the time, the way it used to be. Those offensive linemen from the 90s took so much pride in opening holes for the running backs. Helu runs with passion, as does Burkhead.....but I do think we don't block with any passion.

This team is very young and inexperienced compared to the teams of the 90's. There is depth but it is young depth. In the 90's NU reloaded with guys that had been in the system for a few years and were just waiting their turn..

For having a redshirt Frosh @ QB, and the immaturity of freshman/sophomores throughout the future looks really bright.

If they were to get some help from other teams, NU could very well end up with more than they actually deserve this year.

I'll be pleased with a Big XII title, a 13-1 finish and a top 5 ranking knowing they'll be an even deeper more mature team in the future...

Forgot to add..In the 90's Nebraska had been running the same offense for 15-20 years. These players have only been running this offense for 1-2.

I made this comment on the way back to Omaha last night...........

It's disappointing....... and it's something that HAS to be fixed or next year could be a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG year full of disappointments.....

Our schedule next year is way to brutal- not to have a killer instinct.....

Enter Bo Pelini

2008 - (9-4) Gator Bowl Win
2009 - (10-4) Big XII North Champs, Holiday Bowl Win
2010 - (9-1) Probable Big XII North Champs, potential for 10, 11, 12, or 13 wins.

9 win seasons are the cellar for NU football. A 10 win season is likely and potentially more...

Bo has come a long way essentially beginning from scratch with a new system and with players that had very little confidence and swagger..

I would not argue that Bo has not done a lot for this team already...

I also know we are young... I have said that many times this season....

I would however say... this team has now played 10 full games together and practiced together all season.

It's time that they throw all the excuses out the fucking window and play with the Pride that you should have when you put on that uniform/helmet "in all phases of the game".

I was thinking the same thing yesterday and my initial thought was it is the coaches responsibility to have the players prepared each week to go out an play hard for 60 minutes.
As I thought about it more though I am ready to give Bo and his staff (to include Watson for now) the benefit of the doubt.
Last year we saw the emotion in the play on the defensive side and that was becaue of one player who led that type of play. It was Suh. Suh not only was the greatest defensive player in NCAA history he was a leader and led the way.

This year Crick was supposed to step in and fill the hole but although he has been ok he definitely hasn't done that.

Now we have several senior starters on both sides of the ball that we will be losing and while none of these really took on a leadership role I don't see any underclassmen that look like they will either. I think Martinez will as he grows but no one seems to be stepping up on the defensive side.

Without this leadership I am afraid we will have good teams but no great teams. I do know that this team had the capability to be a great team and under performed.

Where I'm stuck I guess is this something the coaching staff should be developing or is this someone you just have to wait and hope for?

What gets me worked up the most is that this year and last year we start out great and then progressively get worse from there on offense. Our Defense does not seem to have this issue. Why? Is it a coaching problem?

I shutter to think where we would be now if the coaches had not taken a chance on a freshman QB. Oregon and Auburn both run similar offenses and they are putting up staggering numbers, so whats our issue

Martinez and Burkhead will be GREAT leaders.........

David will be next year..... Martin has the capability if he can excel in his new position.. Look for Baker to become a leader...... as well as Tyler Moore down the line.......

We will have leaders...... and I'm very excited about burkhead/martinez.....

By the way...

How do you know I am not you’re soon to be ex... that has you fooled and been posting all these years without you even having the slightest notion it is/was me?.....

Furthermore;

I am tired of you thinking I know nothing about football and not respecting me, all I wanted was to be your equal, sharing every moment with you, good or bad.
