So 200+ women are retiring from the game?

or they're all going to ante up/raise funds to start a lucrative league that they will earn a living playing in?

What's the point? They think the world will be lost without women's hockey?

I really wish that female athletes understood the basic concept that salaries are driven by revenue and not toxic masculinity...

The problem is with the name of the league, they need a snappier acronym than NWHL. Something like B.O.O.B.S.

I'm all for equality but interest is what drives up salaries. What they are asking for is not feasible with their current attendance figures, sad but true.

They are the only ones.

Poulin released the same statement but in French.

If this does happen. Hell I'd support it. Hockey is hockey no matter what sex of a player.

I'm seriously not sure how professional womens' sports ever see themselves as becoming financially viable. They will always be leagues that will either be paid like shit or rely on their "big bother" leagues/teams to finance and bail them out. The NHL had to toss money at them to stop the bleeding, the MLS does the same for the Women's soccer league and I think the NBA does too?

I don't think it will every be self sufficient or viable but I wouldn't mind if the NHL threw a few bucks their way to see what happens.

There is a reason why there is generally 19 people in the stands for a professional women's hockey game. It's because bad, boys high school hockey is far superior to that nonsense.

I'm OK with the ladies playing and enjoying hockey, but they're not going to make a viable living off of the game.

The NHL managed it for 50 years... (I realize this is like comparing apples to locomotives)

I go watch the Ohio State Women's team, partly because I am friends with their goalie coach and one of my son's teammates' older sister plays. entertainment value-wise it's often as good or better than Men's hockey.

The issue is how do they get casual hockey fans to spend money to watch. I will go to the rink to watch Mites play. I will always go and watch hockey. I'd pay to watch a women's pro game. But I am very much in the minority.

They need to figure out a non-gimmicky way to get people watching on TV or online.

Yes. That was directed at just that
If there was a team in my town? I'd go to games

I’m all for economics.

The nba should not be subsidizing the WNBA and the nhl shouldn’t touch this as well.

That could be shortsighted though. These leagues could help grow the game in ways that do not immediately affect the bottom line.
