Good news is that he doesn't mind the franchise tag.
yah, read that earlier. Good to know.Good news is that he doesn't mind the franchise tag.
Tag..you're it. Will it be him or Gostkowski? They need to work out a deal with one of them and tag the other.
I can't see BB shelling out "franchise" money to a kicker though I could be wrong. If Gostowski wants to be paid at or near the top of the kicker pay scale, he is likely to be gone.
Either way I don't see anything happening until the Revis contract situation is cleared up. Once that domino falls I think everything else, personnel wise, will happen pretty quickly.
BB tagged Vinatieri twice so I wouldn't discount it. Kicking at Gillette is not an easy thing. I'd like to see Gostkowski stay. The tag has to be used by the end of today I believe.
I was unaware that the tag had to be used today. Makes things a bit more interesting.
Today at 4 pm ET.
But players do have until July 15 to reach a long-term contract with their current team, otherwise they must play the 2015 season under the tag.
So the Pats have to work on Revis AND McCourty?
This is when you wish you could hear the conversations going on in Foxboro on subjects like these.

Revis still has a year left on his deal so they could not tag him. As crazy as it sounds, it's probably easier to find a quality safety than to find a quality kicker. If McCourty only wants to find the most money he can, then he will probably find another team willing to pay him more than the Pats. Honestly, I would not blame him if he took that deal. However, I think he realizes that his brand as a SB winning safety might be worth more in the long run. Perhaps he just wants to rake in all the cash he can when he can, and, like I said, that's fine. I think, however, he may find that the difference isn't significant enough to leave the only team he's ever played for.
