Good news is that he doesn't mind the franchise tag.

I think he knows what is up. Going to get the tag for 9+ mill this year. They will extend him next yr when some more cap opens up. DMC is no dummy, he knows Revis needs to get done, to make his job easier. Making 9+ mill for a year is not to bad, or course he can live with it. LOL

Tag..you're it. Will it be him or Gostkowski? They need to work out a deal with one of them and tag the other.

I can't see BB shelling out "franchise" money to a kicker though I could be wrong. If Gostowski wants to be paid at or near the top of the kicker pay scale, he is likely to be gone.

Either way I don't see anything happening until the Revis contract situation is cleared up. Once that domino falls I think everything else, personnel wise, will happen pretty quickly.

BB tagged Vinatieri twice so I wouldn't discount it. Kicking at Gillette is not an easy thing. I'd like to see Gostkowski stay. The tag has to be used by the end of today I believe.

I was unaware that the tag had to be used today. Makes things a bit more interesting.

Today at 4 pm ET.

But players do have until July 15 to reach a long-term contract with their current team, otherwise they must play the 2015 season under the tag.

Then I guess we'll know by 4pm today what BB has in mind.

So the Pats have to work on Revis AND McCourty?

This is when you wish you could hear the conversations going on in Foxboro on subjects like these.

Going through a similar issue in Denver. We have so many big name FA's possibly hitting the market here soon and there are just rumors flying left and right of what is going to happen to them. Hard to weed through all of the BS that is getting thrown out there. Have to think they at least get the Revis situation figured out pretty soon as hard to move forward until you figure out that $25 million decision.

Which I am completely shaking my head at. Either they truly think they can work a deal with these two or they are having Super Bowl hang-over and "well, we won so it's all good."

Revis still has a year left on his deal so they could not tag him. As crazy as it sounds, it's probably easier to find a quality safety than to find a quality kicker. If McCourty only wants to find the most money he can, then he will probably find another team willing to pay him more than the Pats. Honestly, I would not blame him if he took that deal. However, I think he realizes that his brand as a SB winning safety might be worth more in the long run. Perhaps he just wants to rake in all the cash he can when he can, and, like I said, that's fine. I think, however, he may find that the difference isn't significant enough to leave the only team he's ever played for.

Well now....I trust BB, and we all should. However, I am still SMH how you can let an All Pro FS test FA in a market where teams have a lot of money and the depth at FS in FA and the Draft are very thin. I look at it this way. They think they can sign him to less than the tag money this yr, or they think he is not worth what he is going to get.

NE has to spend this yr so they are not giving back money to NFL. One way to make up that money is to give bigger signing bonuses. I think this will happen. Revis comes first in my mind. DMC was much better this yr because Revis took away one half of the field. IMO Revis made DMC some money this yr. SO you give Revis and DMC a big chunk of cash as a signing bonus, lower the cap numbers and get a deal done. Again I think this is why TB12 gave that 24mil back. They have to spend that...at least that is how I read it.

Another way I look at it. BB thinks he can get a stop gap to fill in at that spot. I have read that Logan Ryan would be move to FS, a lot of scouts looked at him as a FS during the draft, maybe BB did too. OR we can go out and sign Tvyon Branch for a couple of yrs on a prove it deal. In the end I think they get both Revis and DMC back once they toss them that cash.....Revis first!!

Ryan can play safety. Don't jump to conclusions.
We had too many DB's at the beginning of this year and we have a lot of choices.
The best thing Revis could bring this team, he already brought! Taught the DB's how to play and brought us a SB.
Can he bring more than that or has he fulfilled his purpose?

It's a tough balance for these guys. Careers are short. He now has a ring so does he go after the money and play on a pitiful team more than likely or does he take less and continue to have his name mentioned with a winner or fall into the abyss with a team like the Jags?

Rumors this morning are that the Oakland Raiders will make offers to Suh and McCourty that will blow the doors off anyone else's. Considering they have approx. $55M in cap space they can go crazy. Adding McCourty and Suh would really upgrade a pretty good defense.

AND..............they'd still have plenty of cash to sign..........................Darrell Revis

Here are some options for the Patriots if Revis and McCourty don't resign.....

Replace Revis with Malcolm Butler. He's actually better than Revis covering a downfield receiver and proved it in the Playoffs and the Super Bowl. Draft a CB to start learning the Patriots system to replace Browner.

Replace McCourty with Logan Ryan. Ryan is bigger and faster than McCourty and has played all three CB positions. Converting him to FS would be a breeze. His hands and angle reads are exceptional. Playing 30 yards off the line of scrimmage would be perfect for him.

Not resigning these two would give the Patriots approx. $25M in cap space. Redo Wilfork and Mayo and save another $10M. Now grab the best free agent OG available.

Losing Revis and McCourty will give the Patriots at worst two extra 3rd round picks next year in the draft. They could possibly be 2nd round picks depending on the contracts they get.
