Got this from Tandler
—One other nugget I picked up from OTC was that the base salaries of several Redskins become fully guaranteed on March 18, four days after the start of the league year. Among those players is Terrell McClain, who has a $3.25 million salary and a $4.69 million cap hit. He was a disappointment after signing as a free agent last year. The delayed guarantee gives the Redskins a window where the can move on from him prior to the guarantee kicking in. If they make him a standard release they would save about $1 million in cap and $3.5 million in cash. They also could designate him as a post-June 1 release and save $3.4 million in cap this year while adding $2.5 million in dead cap to 2019. I haven’t heard that the Redskins are considering releasing McClain, but the opportunity is there if they want to do it.
So there is a way to move on from him. Saving 3.4m in cap space this year is significant. Maybe this is why Wilkerson is being brought in.
