so... we just had the finished the draft but now there are questions about the amount of keepers...

a true dynasty only has a rookie draft... which would be 3-5 rounds long...

but we created this league to fill the hole we lost after our other 2 leagues folded... and neither of those leagues were a true dynasty... they were just keeper leagues where there was no draft penalty for the players we kept...

so do we want this to be a true dynasty??

if not how many keepers??

the benefit of it being a keeper league and not a true dynasty would be that it would be easier to improve your team if you were a rebuilding team... and also the more value draft picks will be for trade...

so... what do we want??

there are 39 total players and 27 active players....

here are the options i will throw out

1. Dynasty- with a 3 round rookie draft
2. any 20 players keeper
3. 15 active keepers with unlimited minor leaguer keepers( you can keep all of your minor leaguers if you want)
4. any 25 players keeper
5. any 30 players keeper

I’ll say true dynasty as well.

Still, it would be nice to see what Fantrax says about minor league eligibility time... or if we have a “manually supervised” limit. I guess that’s another poll.

I think 20 player keeper more accurately reflects a mlb franchise anyway. This isnt the 30s where you have players for life.

20 keeper and 8 to 10 round draft incorporating rookies imo

Or we can do a separate 5 rd vet draft (to simulate a free agency of sorts) and 3 specifically for rookies

I assumed this to be true dynasty but with 39 players I would be fine with a 20-25 keeper.
On another question- what is the rule for when a player can no longer qualify as a minor if he is called up? Do we get a couple weeks?

Never truly done a "true Dynasty" Draft so I truly screwed the pooch on my rookies/minors I drafted then so oh well. I'll go with what the league wants..

But I would like 15-20 keepers if we don't

dynasty for me since ive never done one
as for people asking about minors rules
u can only put a player in the minors if they are in it but if u want AB/IP eligibility we can just have milk move them as commish
once in minors they can stay there as long as u want ( on yahoo if player comes out of minors u dont have to move him out but if u dont u cant make any other transactions till u do)

This is my first dynasty so I’m no expert but the point of a dynasty league is to discourage full-out tanking without penalizing it. You can still rebuild while competing.

Rookie draft
25 keepers (Is this strictly MLB keepers?...if so there will probably need to extend minor league player max?)
5-10? round draft to redistribute non-keepers, etc.

Dynasty pros: full control, positive impact on trading, no penalty for having good players that would exceed a specified limit.
Dynasty cons: lessened draft pick value... but would add with only six bench spots, there will be room for free agent heroes.

Solutions: up the playoff teams to 8. Possible byes for 1/2 to make room.

25 keepers pros: fills the draft up a little more, making picks more valuable in trade, maybe a little less skepticism for rebuild.
25 keepers cons: penalized for having 26 or 30 very keepable players, weakens the press to make trades.

Solutions: have full minor league keeper control and have separate poll for the remaining 27 to be 25 or 20 (not 15).

I almost added the risk of participation meltdown come football drafts for the bottom teams...but that is probably more universal in baseball than it is league type. (please don’t let that happen here!)
Another reason to up the playoff teams.

slightly off topic, but I generally prefer Medium vs average... But I am thinking of changing it to average instead, because with an odd amount of owners, medium guarantees that there will be at least one team that gets a tie every week.... even though that is not a big deal, I think it is an eye sore to see a tie.. so if we can prevent it, we may want to... Not saying Average would prevent a tie... it just wouldn't be guaranteed...
