Seems to me like a solid Plan A. Always nice to have an alternative or three in case of injury or ineffectiveness, though.

I like the 5 but Harrison has to be a major question mark after thoracic outlet syndrome surgery and then 2 back surgeries and now the numbness has returned in his fingers. not looking good

Whatever happened with Tepesch btw? At AAA? NOT that I'm recommending he be a spot starter, but I've always felt he could handle long relief if needed.

That's just the result of weakness in his back and using poor mechanics to compensate. He should be fine.

I think most of us recall "experts" on ESPN talking about how we should hold out and not trade for a pitcher, and instead work on getting a bat because we would have so many pitchers return from injuries.
:lame:

That's true, and many of us were saying don't count on any of them returning, for me it was especially Harrison, I'm worried about his future period.
We'll see, always loved the guy

That will be the best 5 man rotation in MLB in my opinion...and we need to sign our entire bullpen back to support them....Cotts, Frasor, and even Nathan...lets do it! Best staff in MLB right there!

Keep in mind Feliz will be coming back next year as well and there's a good chance ogando might go the the pen. So considering the cost of Nathan's option and the fact that they have Ross, Scheppers, Feliz, Soria, Cotts, Ogando, and Soria next year it wouldn't surprise me one bit to see the re-sign Frasor and let Nathan walk.

More that he knows not to expect injured people to return. I can bet he never expected Harrison, Feliz, or Lewis to make an impact, and planned accordingly.

Agree completely. JD isn't clairvoyant. Need was evident early in the offseason when it was clear Colby was not coming to ST. Feliz was no where in that picture ... and Harrison had yet to fall out. I think JD expects to need 100% more than the requirement in every spot on the 40man roster. In the case of SP ... I think JD's got a 3:1 redundancy factor to ensure a competition between contenders for a vacancy in the ML and AAA rotations. Nothing is ever taken for granted or chance.

Honestly, I wouldnt be surprised either about Nathan - Soria could be the closer, but we could have a closer by committee, always thought that would be more effective anyway...I do think we should re-sign Frasor, dont have access to the stats right now, but I would assume he's not expensive.

I will bet we may see Ogando and/or Feliz as trade bait for a big bat...Angels will be frothing at the mouth...f' off Angels!!! I bet they make a run at Cotts and Frasor too...why not, they love to steal our "talent".

Clearly room for both, isn't there? A rotation of Darvish, Holland, Harrison, Garza, and, hopefully, Perez might be pretty formidable.

The thing is ... JD doesn't line up five SPs. He lines up at a minimum 10-12SPs to fill the requirement going into the season ... and then during the season keeps the pool of SPs stocked to if there is a need to reach down to #13 TEX maintains an advantage.

If Darvish, Holland, Harrison (maybe), Garza (possibly) and Perez (probably) are the projected ML rotation ... who are the next five? Who are the five after that? That's what JD's board looks like every day.

I don't think think TEX is projecting Ogando to return to the bullpen. He's an SP. At least two SPs are going to have to come along to bump him out of the job who aren't able to this year.

Feliz nor Ogando would fetch a big bat, they are bullpen guys and fringy at best starters

I'm betting Frasor at the very least is not back next year, especially if they exercise Nathan's option

If they re-sign garza make it 1. Add Harrison and ogando is odd duck out.

I don't see why Ogando couldn't return to his role from 2010 and 2012, when he was very good at the back of the pen. I aslo think it's possible that Feliz could become a good closer again. He was pretty good in that role in 2010 and much of 2011.

I would think they'd be part of a package... Agree, on their own they would not get us the big bat we need...

Is tonight's game rain delayed? I thought it was scheduled for 7:00 CT.

Assuming TEX signs Garza and Harrison is back in 2014? Hardly air tight to the extent that Ogando will be dispatched to the bullpen. As we saw as recently as April two or three SPs going down happens. TEX lines up 10 SPs for the MLB rotation with another 5SPs minimum to keep the pipeline fully staffed. I'd expect Ogando to be in the mix for a rotation spot in 2014.
