Some armchair QB thoughts of mine...

Offensive problems ranked:
  1. OL inconsistencies
  2. Poor schemes
  3. Passing game rhythm
  4. Run game

OL Inconsistencies...
We knew it wasn't going to be pretty, but we were optimistic it would be better than last year. So far it really hasn't been. Seen inconsistencies all across the board at every position. Moore is probably the least problematic out of the bunch, but he still has his issues. This unit needs to start gelling & getting into a groove. Once we see just marginal improvements then the entire offense should improve.

Poor Schemes...
Can't throw all the blame on schemes since we really can't get a fair shake at them until the OL becomes more consistent. But Matt Canada needs to figure out a way to beat the single-high safety defense that teams are shutting them down with. With a single high DB the defenses can load the box and make it extremely difficult for the Steelers to run the ball. So far that has been the blueprint since week 12 IIRC of last year when the Ravens deployed it with success. One glaring issue I have with this is that Canada doesn't seem to ever attack the midfield (seam to seam) and all the deep balls are down the sideline. Why is that? They have 2 very capable TEs (Ebron & Muuuth) that can stretch the seams but we have yet to see that much. But why don't they incorporate high-low concepts with 2-3 WRs in over-under crossers? One of the problems with this is that WRs aren't creating any separation. That makes man-coverage easy for the outside CBs, and the Safety can just wait for the free receiver over the middle. Need to see more WR movements at the sticks and incorporate more rub/combo routes. Working together to free someone up as opposed to depending on receivers to beat their 1-on-1 matchups.

Passing Game Rhythm...
The stuff ranked higher directly relates to this snowballing problem. Ben is rushing his reads & missing open receivers. DJ & Claypool have been winning a fair amount of 1-on-1s but Ben is sticking with his 1-2 reads and not seeing the weakside or checkdowns very often. Simply put, he just hasn't had the time consistently enough to feel confident in making those last few reads. I also think this is a symptom of PA & RPO. Ben taking 5-7 step dropbacks or boots & faking handoffs before getting his 1st read... The OL is doing barely enough to allow these plays to get off the ground, so asking Ben to make 2-3 reads after that is an impossible task during those plays.

Run Game...
I ranked this last because I believe everything above it needs to improve before this can really thrive. Until they can beat the single-high safety and unload the box then the run game is going to suffer. But the OL isn't doing it any favors.

Yup, box was stacked vs the Bills/Raiders and the WR's aren't getting downfield with any separation quick enough......Get Najee outside in single coverage also, utilize his receiving skills if he has nowhere to run......

Sigh...this team is winning no more than 6 games this season. Hope they can avoid the cellar of the AFC North

Have to say that Nick isn't wrong here... This looks like the same offense they have been playing since 2018 when Fichtner took over. Makes me think that its still Ben's offense.

It's still Ben's offense. It's always catered to what Ben can and is willing to do.

We won't see Canada's offense until the QB is someone who can't overrule him.

So, I'm not going to Blame Canada, yet.
