Prospect Notes, Draft, Groome, Jackson, Braves, Allard, Zimmer

The Mariners have taken the unusual step of opening prospect Alex Jackson in extended Spring Training, as Baseball America’s J.J. Cooper writes. While the 20-year-old struggled quite a bit at the Class A level, Cooper says it’s still a nearly-unprecedented move. Seattle farm chief Andy McKay explains that Jackson impressed in camp, but nevertheless will await promotion until his “performance is consistent and predictable and a foundation of the work ethic is beneath it.” The organization is attempting to instill a philosophy in which “your performance will dictate the level you play at,” adds McKay.

Good to see the Mariners holding a top prospect accountable.

It may seem like a harsh (maybe even draconian) measure, but the team has been mismanaged from top to bottom for a decade.

Glad to see the new management staff is trying to erase all of that institutional memory, and being explicit with it.

Went to the Rainier's game last night and they had a write up in the program about this. I think it's a brilliant idea and it should've happened a long time ago...

Oh and for a side note: Paxton is on the market, So many scouts on hand last night, ( and no not your typical AAA following)

It's about damn time someone took the steps to correct this.

And after the 8-0 embarrassment they had tonight, I'm sure there's a lot of accountability to be had. Anyone have the info on what Servais said after THIS one?

Maybe if no one went to their home games anymore, they won't be so distracted and start actually DOING SOMETHING for a change.
