Not a hell of a lot of difference in these three.
5,6,7,10,11,12 are all usually just at large majority conference teams . The reason you start seeing a big dropoff at 13 is that's when most mid/low majors start being seeded

My team has none, or at least any that actually counts.

The last time the state of North Carolina failed to send a team to the NCAA Tournament was 1973, the same year that saw the debut of its still current format of National Championship Monday. One has to go back to 1958 for a tournament that didn't produce a team from either North or South Carolina. Prior to that, it was 1949 when a total of 8 teams comprised the entire field.

I heard Lunardi this morning on XM. He claimed historical data from previous tourneys indicate that the major conference teams with less than a .500 conference records perform worse in the early rounds of the tourney than 2nd/3rd place teams from non power conferences who have been fortunate enough to get in. Stated that it appears "recent losing begets losing and recent winning begets winning"...at least in early rounds.

Since I don't crunch numbers like he does, I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt. @PhilSimms11 may have seen some stats to validate or disprove such.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt as well. I have no data to prove or disprove his information.

only reason why that 1973 statistic exists is b/c NC State was on probation that year. if they were allowed to play in the NCAAT that year, UCLA probably has one less national title

GOAT ACC player
The ACC is littered with all-time greats, but I can't argue with anyone who says David Thompson is the best. It's like asking someone who the best OU Sooner basketball player of all-time is. Answer: Wayman Tisdale (1964-2009).

I love that there is finally not a 0 at the end of this 1 vs 16 record. Can't believe when a #16 finally won that it was by 20 points as well, haha.

What would be fascinating is the number of upsets that would have to been compiled for a 7 to reach the
final four...6 years in a row.

I haven't looked it up but for a 7 to reach the final four, without any other upsets in their bracket they would
have to beat a #10 (They'd be favored) A #2, #3 and #1. I doubt if anybody has accomplished that.
Usually, it's the luck of the bracket and the other upsets that occur.

South Carolina came close in 2017, beating the 10, 2, and 3, but in the Elite 8 they beat the 4. Ditto for Michigan State in 2015.

The most remarkable Final Four run since 2009 in terms of seeding belongs to VCU in 2011. They were an 11 and one of the last 4 at-larges meaning they had to start their tournament with an extra game, the Play-In Round against Southern Cal. After escaping Dayton, the Rams continued on to the Southwest Regional where they beat #5 Georgetown, #3 Purdue, #10 Florida State, and #1 Kansas. Florida State had beaten #2 Notre Dame before having their season ended by VCU, but still the Rams had to win the Dayton Round, then beat 4 higher seeded teams to advance to the Final 4 where they would be defeated by Butler, the Southeast #8.

Highest scoring tournament game:
264 points--(11)Loyola-Marymount 149, (3)Michigan 115 (1990).

This was the same season in which Hank Gathers (1967-1990) collapsed and died during the WCC Tournament. The rest of the tournament was canceled and awarded to LMU. The Lions reached the Elite 8 that year.

W (6)New Mexico St 111-92.
W (3)Michigan 149-115.
W (7)Alabama 62-60.
L (1)UNLV 131-101.
