Maybe it's because he hardly lost at the HS I attended. In fact my senior year every team made it to the title round for their sport, most won. Even the marching band won a the National Title for their category. (And no I'm not making that up. Just didn't appreaciate it till I got older. Just seemed normal at the time.)
