Im calling mama Luongo to see if he actually got concussed on that shot from Streit
What’s that sound heard in Rogers Arena when Canucks trainer Jamie Hendricks took Roberto Luongo’s place in net for practice?
Those were alarm bells.
Not that Luongo is seriously hurt. There’s no indication of that. He even claimed on Monday he was “good to go.”
But file this under reasons the Canucks may not be in a rush to trade their ready-for-primetime backup Cory Schneider.
Luongo missed his second practice today, after suffering an injury when he cut across the crease to stop a Mark Streit shot with his mask against the New York Islanders Sunday.
When he did the splits to stop the rebound, it seems he did something to tweak his groin.
Luongo finished the game, but was injured on the play because immediately after Schneider was seen stretching, preparing to pitch relief if Luongo couldn’t go the distance.
Luongo also missed Monday’s optional practice which doesn’t happen often during the regular season.
It means Schneider will be expected to get the start against the Hawks on Wednesday, while Luongo will have some time to rest. The Canucks play only twice this week, Wednesday and Sunday.
