For sure at that time, some had him as the top player. You did say "2nd MVP" so that's pretty telling.

I said that because his numbers that year were off the charts, and he might have been the 2nd best player in the NBA that year (2015-2016). But only then.

Surely top 5 for a stretch, without the injury he would still be there on most lists IMO.

At the tippy top level it's hard to say who's "better". They are all superstar players who can get your team a long way:

LeBron, Giannis, Steph, Harden, AD, Kawhi, Luka, Dame...

I say yes, but if someone wants to put him in the 6-10 range I won't lose any sleep. Considering his age, if he just holds steady where he is then in 3 years he will move up into top 5 just due to retirement or decline of those ahead of him.

What really matters to me is that in 3 years we will have a 24 year old Luka playing with a 28 year old KP, and hopefully at least one solid draft pick there to round out the three.

It is because 12-15 years of Luka is a lot more valuable than 3 years of LeBron when you are looking beyond just the current year.

Which all NBA franchises are.

I wasn't comparing to Lebron (we all know he's nearing retirement), more likely Kawhi or Giannis. Luka is closing in though.

What about Embiid entices you? I'm not so sure he isn't detrimental to building a real winner.

The W's will somehow get him...but Embiid and Dray will get in a fistfight in their first practice and knock Dray out. He will be hospitalized and his career will be over. Embiid's career will also be over and he will serve jailtime.

I think Embiid would fit great with Luka. They would still have a couple of knockdown shooters after the trade...and with two guys that couldn't be guarded one on one, they would have wide open looks for days. Plus you are talking about a guy who averages nearly 12 boards a game as opposed to nearly 8 for KP

My feelings exactly and why I’m not overly beaten by what happened Tuesday night. And - when you add in the fact they plenty of salary cap available to legitimately offer to a “third piece” before signing Luka to his next deal... along with the possibility of another solid draft pick, I’m stoked about where the Mavs are headed.

I'm not an Embiid fan. Talented player, but with Luka I think you want someone that runs the floor better. Not sure who that would be, as KP will never be a C; he's more of a wing and won't be that protector you need inside.
