You are kind of all over the place here. I'm not saying anything....I'm going by the same computer rankings last year provided by Gator you want to use this year. Are you now suggesting all we can use to measure conferences is how many CFP teams they get? The other 11 or 15 teams don't matter?

OOC games for this season are all we have to go by. all we had to go by last year, as well......until the postseason games. But those told a different story and also were played among more evenly matched teams in many cases.

No. I'm saying top to bottom the SEC is the best conference this season. It's not particularly close in that regard. You said you only care about CFP contenders. So I brought up that the SEC will get more teams in this season. As opposed to last season.

You can reselect teams after the fact. You can only go by what has happened in the regular season. Should a 9-3 USC or Michigan have gotten in the CFP because Ole Miss might have lost in the first round. No, and that's a dumb argument. That's why OOC games are important. USC and Michigan would be sitting pretty (like A&M and Ole Miss) has they won their OOC matchups.

this is false if they only lose, say, 2-3 games (maybe 4).

If there is a 2 or 3 loss P4 team they will be ranked regardless of where they started in the preseason.

Kind of going in circles here.....I said the same was true last season (and it was) but that didn't hold up in the postseason.

who is looking to "reselect teams after the fact"? I never tried to make the argument you claim I did. again, all over the place.

would love to continue this but could you get it together, my friend?

ok, but start at 2 or start unranked might change where they are ranked end of season.

The SEC wasn't as good last year as it is this year. Both in the human polls and CPU metrics. I've said that a couple times already. The top of the B1G was better last year, or the CFP contenders (top 6 teams). Again, not the case this year. Or top to bottom.

I never said you did want to reselect. But how can you call a team/conference overrated when the season has concluded? Was Tennessee overrated because they lost to OSU last year in the 1st round? Or did they just lose? Should Miami have gotten in instead? If you think teams are overrated and shouldn't have made it, you need to have someone go in there place.

I disagree. Plus the AP has no bearing on what the CFP does. Not like tonight's ranking are going to be identical to the AP.

might not be as good as this year but same metrics sure showed they were allegedly a lot better than the BIG.......only they weren't in the postseason.

My point is simple and not really having to do with who should have gotten in next year (or this one).....SEC was allegedly a lot better going into the postseason but didn't prove that in the postseason. Will they have a better showing this year? Guess we will find out.

Again, there's a much bigger gap in those metrics this year as opposed to last year. And the top of the SEC, because of OOC performance, has a decided advantage at the top this year as well. Will that mean anything come CFP time? Probably not because OSU and IU appear to be the two best teams.

Identical? Nope....but guessing very similar.

Honestly, the only SEC team I'd say is incredibly overranked is Missouri. But wont matter much as they likely wont be in CFP discussion.

sure seems like a huge gap last year if Gator's info was correct......didn't matter. Gonna have to wait a bit to see how the next one shakes out.

And they wouldn't be ranked if Kansas beat them.

Tennessee is very overrated this year and should NOT be in the top 50. They have zero wins...zero.

I will say that there is generally more talent in the SEC than other conference. I can say that because the NFL thinks so.

That being said, more talent doesn't mean a better team. The SEC has struggled over the past 2 years in post season play. Not sure who the best conference is, but the most talent resides in the SEC. Again, that doesn't mean SEC are automatically better than Big 10 teams or have the better conference. But from an NFL perspective, yes, the SEC has the most talent pool.

  • Southeastern Conference (SEC): Had 451 players on active rosters at the start of the 2025 season, with 136 more on injured reserve or practice squads. This is a consistent trend, as the SEC has led the nation in NFL draft picks for 19 consecutive years.
  • Big Ten Conference: Typically finishes second in the number of players on NFL rosters. As of September 4, 2023, it had 288 players, while the 2025 draft saw 71 players selected, second only to the SEC.
  • Other conferences:
    • Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC): 213 players as of September 4, 2023.
      • Big 12 Conference: 207 players as of September 4, 2023, with 272 players on rosters and practice squads at the start of the 2025 season.
      • Pac-12 Conference: 178 players as of September 4, 2023.

I mean, that's an absurd comment to make here is probably should go by what actually happened.

If they were 5-3, they most definitely wouldn't be ranked.

ok, but they are not 5-3. If they'd have lost to Auburn or really anyone they beat they wouldn't be ranked.

Yeah, they're 6-2 with a win over Kansas (+.500 record), and losses to #4 by 3 and #15 by 7. Had they lost their OOC P4 game they'd certainly be unranked.

sure but really not sure why we are talking about wins being losses any more than we'd look to consider a loss being a win.

You seem to blaming the polls for having them ranked (or ranked where they are), when a loss to Kansas could have prevented this whole thing.

OK? but polls and this discussion is based on what did happen not fake losses or wins.

Yeah, and they beat KU and have two close losses to top 15 teams. Why do you think they're overrated to begin with? They are a top 25 team based on quality of play and resume.
