I tell ya it is a real shocker that USC and Stanford are opposed to this legislation. All I truly want is for Stanford to come out and ask why the state of California hates women sports so much.

Wasn’t aware that we were in danger of California teams winning any Championships.
Stanford UCLA and USC have more than all 14 of the SEC schools combined
this isnt just about football

Doesn't matter if they aren't the rules are the rules and apply to every member school. If California passes a law allowing this for their Universities they would be in violation of the National rules that are binding for all members. Apparently once again California doesn't think they have to follow any rules or laws

If those 4 schools left CFB, who would notice? USC is a blue blood, but they’ve been far from it for a decade. Stanford does what? Still bitches over Ingram and Henry winning Heismans? And UCLA? Puhleeze.

Oops, almost forgot Cal...

if anybody ever wanted to find a way to really fuck something up in any endeavour, they just need to find a California Democrat politician. They are experts in that field

Per articles in the local paper today, there is a movement to get this shelved for a while.

Smart move on colleges to push the pause button

In the meantime, this will be used on the recruiting trail for sure. We are going after some players considering Oregon and USC. Would imagine and "you need to check out the Cali legislation before committing ... don't want to be on the outside looking in. Come down here where we tell the legislators what laws to pass."

In all seriousness, guarantee it gets brought up with Sewell and Flowe.

It really if we are talking about paying players for their likeness. This law is strictly for football and men’s basketball. No other sport in California generates revenue for their university.

Don’t you have to be going into your junior year of HS to even be affected by this?

wasn't the NCAA already discussing some sort of player compensation? cant remember totally off hand but it was similar maybe not to the extent this new bill would go and probably not in the immediate future. schools don't want to pay players simple as that. California is just simply forcing their hand.

That's mighty white of California and all but maybe they should have put a little more thought into this such as how this is going to destroy the PAC-12 while creating a 'California League' that will consist of the CAL-4 schools along with Fresno St. and San Diego St. It's going to be a league where California schools play each other and nobody else.

this would then push into things like jerseys with names on them including womens basketball and softball. which would primarily be UCLA making money there but still it could be a thing

No, seriously, I thought they were the same state. JFC. :L

The point with Oregon is the uncertainty of what will happen to the PAC if the Cali schools can't participate. Could give a high end recruit some thoughts about where he wants to go to school ... where they are in a real conference, or one that might not even be around in a few years.

It's not likely that anyone will really be affected by it ... but on the recruiting trail, little doubts like that can go a long way. It's a dirty job.
