LOL at signing a RB in FA.

Might want to concentrate on putting together a solid O-Line first even though PFF claims the Lions had a top 10 run blocking OL.

Top trade destinations for Detroit Lions cornerback Darius Slay | NFL News, Rankings and Statistics | PFF

Detroit is supposedly seeking a Day 2 draft pick for Slay, and any team involved would have to give him a new contract.

Slay had an all-around bad year in 2019, one that was somewhat uncharacteristic for the eighth-year cornerback. In every season from 2014 to 2018, Slay produced a PFF coverage grade above 70.0, ranking among the 20 best corners in the NFL in four of those five seasons. In 2019, he managed a coverage grade of just 56.9, which ranked 92nd in the NFL and was barely better than his 2013 rookie season. It's understandable why Detroit might be hesitant to hand out a fat contract to Slay after that poor season, but we shouldn't let recency bias make us assume that Slay's 2019 is his new norm.

As far as trading Slay goes,

I wouldn't expect anything more than a mid 2nd round pick into mid 3rd round pick for him at this juncture.

Overpaying for Van Noy isn’t going to solve our problems though.

If we are going to overpay — at least get a game changer.

and neither will keeping the current overpaid GM/HC.

This team needs 3 picks in each of rounds 1-4 for the next two drafts and smart FA signings this year and next and still wouldn't get it right.

I would personally kick Gingerdick in the nuts if he gave Van Noy 15 million dollars.

VanNoy would be the best LB on this team.

All VanNoy would have to do is show up on the practice field and he'd be better than Tavai, C. Jones, J. Davis, S. Longa, JRM.

Viable low-cost options at each position in free agency | NFL News, Rankings and Statistics | PFF

DI: Shelby Harris
In a recent article where I sorted through the deep interior defender free-agent class, I deemed Harris the “wild card” of the group. That revolves around the question as to whether he can repeat the elite grade that we saw from him in the 2018 season (90.4) on an increased workload. In the last three seasons, Harris has recorded overall grades of 76.3, 90.4 and 76.8 on snap counts of 516, 391 and 636, respectively. When the snaps went up, the grade dipped.

It's not as if Harris was ineffective on the increased workload. His 76.8 PFF grade ranked 17th among players at the position, and his PFF WAR value sat inside the top 25 players at the position, as well. That's part of what makes his projected 3-year, $16 million contract look like a bargain relative to his peers. At worst, you're getting a plus starter who has three consecutive seasons grading at 75.0 or higher. At that price point, teams should be interested.

I'm fairly confident the writer of that article has more football smarts than I do.

I'm just opinionated and an ass.

and old

and grumpy

I resemble those remarks.
