The Tampa Bay Lightning have re-signed forward Tyler Johnson a seven-year contract worth $5-million AAV, vice president and general manager Steve Yzerman announced today.

I think this is a very good deal for the bolts. For me the $5 mill mark is spot on for Johnson especially considering TSN was predicted both he and Palat could be looking at getting north of $5.5, heading towards $6 mill per. I don't think he'll ever get back to his scoring ability of 29 goals like his did in his 2nd full season but I could see him consistently 20-25 goals and 50-55 points. He's a very solid two way #2 center and to have him locked up for the next 7 years at a good price is another one in the bank for Stevie Y.

Overpaid too small, always getting hurt. They'll end up buying him out after 3-4 years.
He's no Martin St. Louis

Don't get me wrong I like Tyier and I think he's worth 5 mill a year. JUst not for 7 years.
Small players usually don.t last too long and you can already see the toll its
taken on him the last two years. As bad as this deal is its not as bad as the Vinny deal'

I agree with Bolt. And this guy (T. Johnson) was not a player Danny liked before now. I guess if the Lightning have to have someone, he knows their system. Contract too long but like Bolt stated not as bad as Vinny's and it doesn't increase in pay over time. All in all, I think the Lightning went the cheap and easy route this off-season. Bah hum bug, I'm disappointed already. We'll see what the new season brings to them. I hope they stay healthy!

Yeah maybe 5 years would of been ideal but the $5 AAV is ideal. Could be wrong but if a team offers less years than what the players want, then the player would demand more money per year. For example at 5 years Johnson might of been looking at $5.5 mill per rather than $5 per in which he has signed for 7 years.
