I think we'll defnitely be hearing the Caps' "Larry Murphy woop woop" chant whenever Semin gets the puck tonight. It's supposed to be reserved for former defenseman, but meh... whatever.

Hopefully 2-3.

The sad thing is that Semin was inevitably going to be more successful elsewhere. I don't know if what he's doing will last - not that he's lighting the league on fire (only 4 goals in 17 games and shooting only 7%). We've seen Semin be strong for short spurts (sorry, can't help myself), but ultimately he plays soft or makes dumb mistakes.

But I think not being with OV is better for him. He was too comfortable here. He was able to just hang with OV and not have to reach out to other teammates. So I think him doing better elsewhere was inevitable. You see this all the time in sports. Sometimes a change/a new environment is just what someone needs. A new challenge, wanting to prove their worth, etc. It motivates... which is precisely the area Semin has had trouble.

So it's good for him. Unfortunately, it doesn't help us at all. Which is why I think they should have traded him long ago to get some value from him.

The big positive - the money got us Ribeiro, who is cheaper and better.
