In one of my points league, I have way too many bench 1B so I was thinking about dropping one of my first base options for more pitching depth?

Let me know if I'm crazy

My 3 1B are Napoli, Tex, and Rizzo.

My pitchers in this league are Max, Lester, CC, Weaver, Dickey, Zimmerman, Greg Holland, Soria, and Sergio Romo.

Thoughts?

I don't even have any bench position players in two different leagues. If Jason Vargas is available, Id drop somebody and pick him up. Charlie Morton too. Both two starters this week, and decent chance they may available on waivers.

I like Miley(He was a guy I waited around on in a few leagues)for the long haul. But if you're just looking for this week, Id look elsewhere. IE two starters. Veras scares me personally.(Nova helped me land Max in a trade earlier this week, so he's cool in my book.)

Ahhhh, whats your max start limit? (Nova is a two starter this week, Buerhle, Hudson and Lackey as well.)In Dailey leagues I try to find a Sunday starter for the week as a little bonus. Not sure if yahoo works like ESPN on Sundays being exempt from the max start count.

do you have injury reserve spot?? if so thats for tex... Dropping tex is not the worst move at this moment, the only problem is that if he comes back to play anywhere like he has in the past he will be way more valuable than those pitchers you just mentioned... Of them i would take nova, since he has the highest potential, not to mention best offense to get him wins, i think...

It salvaged my week! (Dumping my lone bench guy in Kelly Johnson was the difference. The Hilltoppers thank him for their services.) You smoked me in the Prospects, had the third highest score of the week in my other Disney leagues, friggin' lost both! Greinke gets shakey in the sixth, Donnie Baseball comes out for a visit AND DOESN'T TAKE HIM OUT! Ugh!!!! The QS wound up costing me, I lost by 4. You've got to find a better team doctor buddy. And beat Rita, she's getting a little cocky.

I'd add Nova for Tex. Wouldn't touch Veras in a 30 team league.

This is my first year playing ESPN h2h. Can you explain what you mean about Sundays being exempt from the max start count? Thanks.

In daily points leagues, you should not have any bench hitters. Here is why:

Those bench hitters that you have make for nice injury replacements but they are not helping your weekly point total. You might be able to plug those hitters in on a light schedule day and pick up an extra 2 or 3 points per start, but think about what an SP can give you in an average start.

Let's say you are allowed to make 5 roster moves in a given week. Drop all of your bench bats for solid SPs (expected to give you about 10 points per start), but reserve the last spot for a streamer. Using your 5 moves to grab a different starter with a good match-up each week can allow you to steal an extra 40-50 points.

As good as it feels to have an injury replacement, it ain't worth 50 points a week. You can try and trade Rizzo and Napoli for SPs, but you might not get any takers. If your league is shallow enough that those guys are bench players, then it would not be terrible to drop them, but again, try trading first. Tex is an immediate drop.

In all the ESPN leagues Im in(3), there is a 12 start max for pitching. As in, if your staff has more than 12 starts, every start after 12 will not be granted points toward your weekly total. (It will show up for your daily score, but the extra start points will be taken away.). However.... Sunday starts don't count towards the weekly total. So the key is to be at 11 starts after Saturday is complete(Or as close as you can get). Then every start you can find will count on Sunday. It's a loophole of sorts and makes Sunday starting pitchers Valueable. (Im happy with the first start of Vargas' week. Just wish Yost hadn't let him come back out in the 9th.). I try to project out a week early. Looking for Tuesday starter with Thursday off, or Wednesday starters. Can't wait till the end of the week to nab the coveted Sunday guys anymore.
