Holmgren says Leighton will go to Phantoms | Flyer Files

Michael Leighton (Oct. 11 back surgery) rotated in and out of the net at Friday’s practice and said he’s been medically cleared to take shots.
Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said players on long-term injury reserve are permitted up to six days of rehab time in the minors and that he plans on assigning Leighton to the AHL Phantoms next weekend when they play games Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
“We’d like to get him in two or three games,” Holmgren said.
Leighton, who has not played since Sept. 24, is still having some numbness in his leg and welcomes the idea of a rehab stint.
“Yeah, I think it’s probably in my best interests to go down, get a few games in, get some good practice time and get back into game shape,” Leighton said.
