In order to have cap space, the Flyers placed Ian Laperriere on the long-term injured reserve list. They now have about $500,000 in cap room.

The worst part is maybe losing Couturier for the season if we can't ditch a contract somehow.

Although I'm laughing at all the folks in the comments saying we should cut Shelley. Not that I disagree - we should cut him. But that's not exactly how NHL contracts work.

Trade Shelley and a 7th to Edmonton for Edmonton's 7th. DO EET.

No chance they lose Couturier for contract reasons for the season. They could always release a low minors player from his contract to play in Europe. Or have Lappy retire if really necessary. ALthough that would hurt the cap. Or trade a minor leaguer for nothing...
