Despite the Indiana Pacers' heartfelt movie tribute and presentation to Lance Stephenson, the two sides are currently at an impasse over a new deal, according to sources close to the situation.

The Pacers offered a five-year, $44 million contract to Stephenson, but sources said the versatile shooting guard believes he's worth much more.

Stephenson averaged 13.8 points, 7.2 rebounds and 4.6 assists last season -- all career highs for the four-year player.

"Lance and his representatives aren't sure they're going to be able to reach an agreement with the Pacers," a source said. "It's clear they want him back and he wanted to go back, but they may not be able to come to terms."

Several clubs have reached out to Stephenson's agent, Alberto Ebanks, to register their interest, most notably the Los Angeles Lakers and Chicago Bulls, according to sources.

Michael Jordan and the Charlotte Hornets also have interest in Stephenson.

That is a fair offer that Indiana made.

If the LAKERS want to overpay for him, that is their burden.

The PACERS are doing the right thing by not backing up the brinks truck to a player who had career highs in a contract year with potential maturity issues.

The Pacers should let another team overpay for him. Too me, he is a walking headache. Too bad Avery Bradley is resigning with the Celtics, that would have been a good replacement.

I think I would agree with you there.

Ya, I wanted Bradley. That sucked.

Not a chance. Are they really going to spend $10m+ a year on a backup for Kobe?!?

ONLY reason the Pacers aren't offering more is because they don't want to pay luxury tax.
Look what other players are being offered.
He's better then all of them.

Lakers could be creative with their roster.
Plus you are assuming Kobe's staying healthy, or playing for more then 2 more years, or 40 minutes a game.
You do need to put a team on the court this season.
You keep subtracting. You're likely losing Gasol.
Assuming you don't get Melo or James, who do you want?

Just like every other team is doing out there, i'd rather wait till Melo and Lebron make their decisions.

Bulls sign him if they don't land Melo. I been hearing that he is their plan B in FA class. Lance should wait and see where Melo goes first because he would be next in line.

I hope the Lakers don't sign this guy. There are better options out there.

We don't know how Kobe will be this season. Everyone is saying how good he looks. There is still 3 months before training camp. I think he'll be a very effective player this season. And there's a good chance Gasol stays. Mitch and Pau met for three hours yesterday.

They should go for Bledsoe and Parsons.

Problem with that being, their current teams will likely match unless they land one of the big fish.

Other less attractive options would be Stuckey, who would have taken the midlevel form the Warriors, Collison, Jameer Nelson.

I know your fanbase is historically impatient.

But, Clarkson might be the guy longterm.

DeAndre Kane was a problem child in College and went undrafted.

But, he's a better pg than anyone else currently on that Roster and would have a legit shot to make that team if they could rid themselves of the " Ghost of Steve Nash's " albatross of a contract.

Regardless, if Gortat is worth 5/60 so is Lance.

As far as Gasol, you may be right, but I think he's gone. Lakers cant offer him a chance to win in the near future and I believe he is pissed form being the rumor of every trade the Lakers were involved in the last 2 years.
Very similar to Ray Allens mindset IMO.

I doubt they get Parsons or Bledsoe, ya. Stuckey is interested from what I have read. Lakers got Clarkson, no?

I would love to see him in a bulls uni once melo passes on them. Lance is an extremely talented 2 way player and obviously isn't scared of the big stage.

Wow...The Cavs are offering Hayward a Max deal.

I'm sure that will make Ariza and Stephensons camp happy.

No way either of those guys go for less than 10mil now, unless it's to a contender.
