PREVIEW:Los Angeles Lakers vs. New Orleans Pelicans - Preview - November 12, 2014 - ESPN Los Angeles
Without Ellington, the Lakers bench is a 2 man squad. It's pretty bad when you're praying for Nick Young to return as if he was some sort of basketball holy savior or something, but that's where we're at right now.
There is some monies available due to the medical exception filed by the Lakers for the situation of both Nash being out and then Randle going down. Mitch is scouring the NBA for some help because Ellington has received an indefinite furhlough from the Lakers and the NBA because of his father's death. I am sure Mitch will make a move here shortly to shore up our troops.
On Kobe becoming the all-time missed shots leader:
Dan Patrick had an interesting take. He said that you have to be pretty good to be the all-time leader in missed shots. It means you've been good enough to play for a long time and have gotten a lot of shots. Considering the other 4 on the top 5 missed shots list are Havlicek, Hayes, Malone and Jabbar, that's a pretty good list.
He also pointed out that Reggie Jackson is the all-time strikeouts leader and Brett Favre is the all-time interceptions leader. Being among all-time leaders in categories like that isn't always a bad thing.
Young isn't the savior but he'll be a significant contributor off the bench. They are seriously missing his firepower.
They have a full roster, so they'll have to free up a roster spot before they can sign someone with the Randle DPE. They haven't been awarded a DPE for Nash yet. His situation isn't as clear as Randle's. With any luck, they can find a team looking to trade for a $9mil expiring contract.
