So I was looking at the numbers - and this is pretty crazy - Lacob's ownership group bought the team a few years ago at 450mil. TODAY it is valued at 750mil. That's already 300mil in ROI for our ownership group. In the last year alone our valuation went up 35%, making us the 9th most valued franchise in the league, 650mil less than the most valued team - the Knicks.

I also see us overtaking the Mavericks at the 8th spot very soon. We're valued at only 15mil less, but raking in much more yearly cash flows. By next year we should be at least 8th or 7th.

Just thought it was pretty interesting.

And those valuation studies underestimate the actual value teams fetch when they go on sale. No way the Bucks were valued at $550 mil but that's what they sold for. The Clippers are going to sell for $1B, and the Warriorswould get at least that if they sold now.

I agree, it is amazing. Just a few short years ago the Warriors were considered the laughingstock of all professional sports franchises.

Exactly. And actually for the Clippers the bidding could even start at 1.5bil:

One industry source told ESPN.com this week that the bidding could start as high as the $1.5 billion range. …

Report: Grant Hill?s group regarded by league as ?viable contender? for Clippers ownership | ProBasketballTalk

Which is absolutely insane. Sterling could end up selling the Clippers for triple of what Forbes has valuated the team is worth. It could bump his net worth from 1.9bil all the way to 3bil.

Well no if he sells for $1.5 bil he'll be paying about $350 mil+ in tax, but yeah it's pretty amazing.

Which is why I don't have much sympathy for owners when they lock out the players and put the screws to them.

And if Sterling sells the Clips, no way does Magic Johnson get a piece of the action. Conflict of interest suspicion with that wannabe Schiviano gal alone should disqualify him. Would be cool to see Yao Ming get a piece of it, according to reports that says he's interested. Yao Ming would market the Clips to China 1B people, the Clips value would skyrocket to unbelievable heights.

Holy shit!

Well it is an LA team (where they still don't have a football team), and they don't suck anymore, and all this craziness just makes buyers want to be the 'savior'.

Still...

If there was any doubt (and there wasn't outside of certain, um, cognitively challenged posters) that Sterling would sell....if he can get that kind of $ he will take it with a big smile on his horrible face.
