Kunitz gets paid!

Penguins give Chris Kunitz a 2 year extension worth $7.45 mil.

Same salary as his old contract. I am a bit surprised at this move. I am not unhappy, but a bit surprised. I thought the healthy competition between UFA wingers would make the compete level on the Pens a bit higher.

But 2 yrs, and no increase to the cap for next, can't really beat that.

I agree with JA, i'm a bit surprised by this, too. However, he has been a very reliable line-mate with Sid, and when the captain returns, I'm sure he will step right back into that role, again. Chris has grit, and considering the grit that left in free-agency last season, it's nice to have that on the first line in Kunitz

My best guess is between 4 and 4.5 per. Having him under 4 is nice. He's a 20-goal/50-point guy who can hit. If he stays healthy all season (which hasn't really happened yet), I could see him as a 30-goal guy, especially if he's being centered by Sid.

We shall see, though. The only concern I have with this contract is his tendency to get hurt the past two years.

That would be my guess. Not a bad deal at all and honestly not too surprised since he is a good compliment to Crosby.

Yeah health is a concern for him due to this style but the Penguins are used to having absolutely no one play the whole season.

oh for sure, aside from orpik there might not be anybody on the pens that doesn't annoy me.. maybe some of the new guys are ok, cause they haven't played the flyers very often.. but i hate pretty much everyone in black/gold
