Just to give you all something to chew on, and I know this is kind of a repost,
Kovy is rumoured to have signed a 17 year $102 million deal that will pay him $95 million in the first 10 years. Assuming he retires before he starts making $1 million a year that will net him that will net him $95 million before taxes and around $60 million after taxes.
He had a firm offer of a 3 year $42 million deal from the KHL. This would have been completely tax free. Or approximately $18 million, or 30%, less than he got from the Devils.
He must have alot of faith in the Devils franchise to go all the way, plus really love playing in the NHL to take such a huge discount to play in jersey.
