You tell 'em Kovy...just because you sucked is no reason for them to report you sucked!

The one thing I will say is that the Ottawa sports media does not hesitate to rip guys. Garrioch is just awful with the trade rumors, but Don Brennan can be particularly acerbic with his column.

the ending is a doozy, too

"It's all great. But I have played in the NHL my entire life. Yes, right now it is interesting for me to play in Atlant. God-willing I will spend not two but four years in Russia. But in the future I would like to end my career in America. At least one more season and to put a full stop."

he thinks he needs some seasoning before he is old enough for the Wings, I guess.

I like seasoning with my wings...

+1!

I'm not sure that he can look any lazier on the ice. We'll see how lazy and exhausted work out. Maybe it'll get him to focus.

Brennan and Garrioch are both terrible journalists. However, I highly doubt that they are dumb enough to try and bring beers through airport security. Kovy might be spot on about them never watching hockey though.

I never was as critical of Clouston as the media and fans in Ottawa, but this sounds pretty bad. Gonchar isn't known as a locker room cancer. Be interesting to see how he does with a new coach this year.

In a battle between Kovalev and the Ottawa press, who do you root for?

I liked Clouston, I think he did a good job being brought into a bad situation. And he was pretty much handcuffed by a few really questionable moves right off the bat. I hope he gets another shot somewhere.

If he sucked in Ottawa because Clouston was a lousy coach, how does he explain sucking in Pittsburgh under the direction of Jack Adams winner Dan Bylsma, exactly?

I just read it. My point stands. His explanation was insufficient.

seems pretty evident from his explanation.... "my playing style didn't mesh with his coaching style" = "Bylsma wouldn't let him float at the opposing blueline, and no matter how hard I looked I couldn't find Mario to pass me the puck"

That's why it's insufficient. :)

The Sun journalists in Ottawa are terrible and despite Kovalev being a lazy fuck in his time in Ottawa, he has talent. Garrioch and Brennan are lazy and have no talent; this one goes to Kovalev.

The histrionic and sensationalistic style of the Sun writers overshadows some pretty good coverage by the Citizen. Citizen hockey writers>>>>>>>>> Kovalev of the last 5 years.

Kovalev is always passing the buck and never acknowledging that he's worn out his welcome in just about every town he's played in (at least with his GMs and coaches).

As for Clouston, he wasn't experienced enough to handle adversity at the NHL level. He had a good year, then fell apart in a very bad year. I think he'll learn from the fact that he tuned out his players (not necessarily the other way around) as things got rough last year. I think he's a good coach whose career path might follow someone like Jacques Martin's. I hope he gets another chance in the big show.

All I know is the Senators & other teams paid him a lot of money over the years. I'll be kind & just say he didn't necessarily give 100% all the time. He played great when he felt like it.
