I always thought of them as junk - not knowing much of anything. Watching some show on Velocity, I see some are actually decent quality and while some are predictable disasters.

You see a lot of Ferrari kits made from an old Fiero. Like this one with a LS1 motor. I'm surprised they could even fit a V8 in an Fiero body?

I saw a cabinet maker I once knew working on an AC Cobra kit car in his garage once. Jaguar brake system, small block v-8. Never saw it finished, but it was sure to be something fast-n-scary to drive.

Would love to do a Cobra kit car one day, turnkey kits with all parts are pretty reasonable. One day...

As for the Fiero and a V8, that is pretty popular. There are a lot of V8 conversion kits that blow my mind. Little S10's can get a 350 in there, which seems insane.

IMO, a Cobra kit car is acceptable and in a different class than people who take POS cars and just make them look like supercars. An I-4 in a "Ferrari" is silly. However, a Cobra kit car that actually has a 302 is pretty much standard.

I wouldn't feel like a tool rolling up in a Cobra kit car, but I would be too embarrassed to drive a fake Veyron.

lol @ all this. Yeah, a Cobra was kinduva "kit" to begin. It's a simple frame with a big engine and brakes.

But then, you have a Chrysler Sebring:

They've been throwing v8's in fieros for ever, I used to want one when I was 16. I think GM should revive the Fiero. Who wouldn't want a cheap mid engine car. Put a 300hp v6 in it with a light plastic body , would compete with the base vette. Look at the 90's MR2, already collectable. The fiero failed cause it was gutless and unreliable

MR2 is a collectable? My wife drove one when I met her, and it was the biggest POS I've ever seen. I wouldn't even ride in it because it was a death trap.

It's always the last car you expect that becomes a collectable.

90's mr2 are becoming much harder to find cheap, the turbo's are definitely becoming collectable. If you find a cheap one its either got 200k miles or a rhd import. They're not Shelby mustang collectable but are definitely becoming collectable for a 90's car like the supra.

Kit cars are just remembered as being put on VW bugs with that rear engine. new models dont need donor cars anymore, they are frame and everything.

on another note if I could get a kit car I would get a SLC superlite coupe. Saw it on Gearz with Stacey(girls name girls hair) david. 44k pretty much gets a roller and you can out whatever engine and transaxle you want. He put an LS1 with a Porsche tansaxle I think, I would put a 140hp fiero engine to save cash

They're bad ass though and don't require much assembly, not a copy of somethings its not

If you can drop $40k on a rolling chassis, I'm pretty sure you won't be strapped for funds when buying a motor. That's my take anyway.
