I'm worried about this. I haven't read whether he has had any previous concussions during his NFL time but I understand why he's being given so much time to heal. Any recurrence in the next month or two puts his entire career longevity at risk.

IIRC Chip has previously stated that this is the first known concussion he has suffered. And today Chip said that they are taking it easy, and that there is not too much reason at all to rush him out there. In his opinion Alonso is fine, but so far Kelly saw no reason to apply for concussion protocol settings. Alonso allegedly has been sitting in on all meetings.

The simple fact that Alonso is able to do that in itself is a pretty good sign - with a somewhat halfway serious concussion sitting in on meetings is impossible.

I hope that Kiko is not damaged goods = injury prone. First the ACL, now a concussion. Hopefully, this is the end of injuries for this "stud"! Chip better not trade MK unless Kiko proves he can stay healthy.

Really?

Players come back and play the next play with them, why would it by impossible to sit in a meeting a week or two later?

Not sure what to believe. They have said it's nothing serious they are just holding him out because it's preseason blah blah blah. That sounds good if you've been on the team for the 4th straight year with the same D and coordinator but his is his first year here with completely different coaches/players. And coming back from an ACL he needs all the live practice he can get.

I'm thinking there's more to it then they want to say.

If you have a serious concussion, then sitting in on meetings is the last thing you can do - at least that is what I have experienced myself, and a number of friends with concussions have. It simply will not work. Milder concussions it is possible - (the effects are lessened) - though even there playing might actually be easier than sitting in and concentrate. Hell, a friend of mine ended up with a concussion due to bumping into a door of a kitchen cabinet. She could not read, watch video or sit in on meetings for more than 5 minutes for 6 months.

I find it very odd that they claim not to have tried to have him get through the concussion protocols. Why would they delay getting him on the field if he's OK? Strange...

Who knows? Too much paper work involved? They are fine with the current restrictions imposed upon Alonso (which seems to include not being allowed to talk to the media).

Also, there is also an increased risk of a new concussion shortly after one has had one. So for all we know they are just extra careful, and him not having passed the protocol simply provides an excuse of keeping him out of practice while avoiding the nuisance of journalists questioning him being held out after having been cleared by the NFL.

I mean, we all know in Philly what happens if one returns too soon from a concussion (Lindros for one, Pronger IIRC another). And we already see how the media is nagging/speculating/whining about players not practising.

I think it is odd that he has taken so long to recover from it, but I suspect they are just taking it extra easy on this guy since it is preseason and he is coming back from a knee injury.
