Hard to say the problem is the offense when they scored 34 points.

The Cardinals had 50 dropbacks. Zero sacks. A handful of pressures. That's simply unacceptable.

Not ONE QB hit. I know our DL is banged up, but watching Murray run all over us and converting multiple 3rd downs just shows how much Norton is lost out there.

480 yards allowed per game. And spare me the bullshit of "Points allowed is all that matters"... ugh. Seattle as of now is LITERALLY setting the record for most yards allowed per game in NFL history.

Wilson had a couple mistakes, but to hang 34 on the road, deal with a few turnovers, and allow the Cardinals to march down the field whenever... how Norton has a job is beyond me. Hell, hire O'Brien at this point... (yes literally going there). Least it gives me fuckin' hope because it'll be fun watching San Fran hang 30+ on us next week as Norton probably will play everyone 20 yards off the line of scrimmage while Kittle hangs 200 yards on us.

If we replaced Ken Norton with Bill Bellicheck, what do you think happens?

I know my initial thread post was deleted, but are we seriously hanging onto Norton because it'll be perceived as 'racist' if we fire him?

Oh so you want to ignore the stupid Pick on 1st and goal at the 3? or the other one at the 30 ( inside FG range at least ) and his INT in OT? come on now. WE ALL READY KNEW this defense sucked but when your defense is bad you can not make rookie mistakes and some of those throws by Wilson were bad. Had Wilson not thrown the Pick at the 3 i think we score a TD there and a FG at least on his one at the 30. That means AT LEAST a 13 point lead when AZ was driving to force OT. The Cards won by staying close and stealing it and the Hawks could have EASILY pulled ahead with out stupid mistakes so that the cards were not even in striking distance. Sorry but this one is on the Offense Just as much as it is on the defense. Not like they came into this game ranked #1 on defense more like #1 in a reverse ranking where worst is first.

Yes. Wilson had 2 bad ints. The defense was terrible from start to finish.

Did the defense have a single really good play?

You'd think holding the Cards to a 4 and out after DK ran down Baker would have lit a fire under their ass but still no pressure on Murray the rest of the way.

that was a GREAT STAND by the Defense! that was HUGE and should have meant more in the grand scheme of things. If Moore would have just been a little less handsy then DK wins the game and his long run to stop the pick 6 and his long run to score the winning TD would have been the story line of this game.

Things would improve dramatically because Bellicheck is very creative... Cards were without Chandler Jones, so what they do? Blitz 61% of the downs... Prior to Jones going down, they blitzed 33% of the downs... They were creative, while putting a lot of pressure on Wilson by changing things up... We blitzed 8% of the downs, while running our same vanilla defense...

While i wont disagree with you i thought the whole defensive series after that DK tackle was great. The Cards came away with ZERO POINTS from the 6 yard line! That really should have been the moment this game was lost by the cards but the Offense went into super shit mode.

I stand by a disclaimer I posted a couple weeks ago...
I will not lose any sleep if Norton gets canned during the off-season. However, there is ZERO value in canning him right now. It is conceding that the season is already over.

Why would that be conceding the season is already over ? We’re dead last in the NFL defensively... We can’t get any worse ..

That was a good stand... You can see we have talent individually on that defense, they’re just not coming together as a unit ...

Carroll gets an extension. Okay, fine. But if he's got a different kind of "extension" for Norton, it's gonna be a long tenure.

Who am I kidding? It already is.

FIRE HIM NOW!!! PLEASE!!!

The Run Defense is not that bad and the Hawks got 7 sacks on defense thats a crazy high number.... That being said i have NEVER seen a pass defense as bad as the Hawks Pass defense. There is a MASSIVE fundamental flaw in this pass defense that for some reason can't be fixed. It is either Scheme or we are fools to think any of our CB's and S's are good.

Why is our rush defense ok but the pass defense is getting shredded so easily even when the other teams QB has pressure. Our CB can't cover and neither can our safeties. Who the F is our secondary coach because he is straight up trash!

lets see this coach list
Defensive passing game coordinator: Andre Curtis
Secondary & Nickel specialist: Nick Sorensen <- hmm 2017 and the back end started to fall apart real bad in 2017, also his background in coaching he should have NEVER became a Secondary coach EVER!
DC: Ken Norton

Now you guys can get a better idea of who does what and who teaches what. If you give a chef rotten eggs he can not make a good meal. I say they need to can/fire Sorensen RIGHT FUCKING NOW as the decline of the back end of this defense is directly tied to when he started to coach them.

Really can't fire Norton as he is playing Pete Carrolls scheme but these other guys like Andre Curtis who is the passing defense's COORDINATOR! and Nick Sorensen the CB/S coach who's hiring is directly linked to when the backend started this massive decline can be fired in the season! Hard to Fire a DC mid season, Sure it's not as bad as firing a HC mid season but really it's only one step down from that. I don't know if it would "help this team" but canning those other two won't hurt it and might just save the season to be honest!

Hawks can win this division but this division doesn't look as strong as it did before.

Yeah you can count me in as far as moving on from Ken Norton. Ever sense the Seahawks moved on from Bevell the offense has looked outstanding which made me wish they would have done it sooner. I tried defending him but there is too much talent on this defense for it to look this bad they are god awful. Having an All pro middle linebacker and an All pro Safety should be enough to make the defense atleast average. We have drafted 6 defensive players in rounds 1-3 the last 3 drafts not to mention using our first round picks the last 2.

I wish someone with more football smarts than I have could really break down what is going on with the Seahawks defense because I really don't get it.

It's tough to figure out exactly what is wrong with the secondary. Injuries? Partially. Scheme? Yes, that's a large part of the problem in my opinion. Coaches? Sure, to an extent. They aren't teaching these DB's what they are doing wrong. They aren't getting the problem fixed.

But.....at least a portion of the secondary's troubles can be explained by who they've had to face.
  1. Matt Ryan: 4th in YPG, and 1st in total yards, Former MVP
  2. Josh Allen: 7th in YPG, and 3rd in total yards
  3. Kyler Murray: Only 13th in YPG, but he's also 8th in rushing yards per game (including RBs!!). So he's a bonafide dual threat to any defense.
  4. Dak Prescott: Was 1st in YPG and total yards before his injury. He was killing it before he was injured.
So having those 4 QB's put up big numbers isn't unique to just the Seahawk's defense. They pretty much torch most teams that they play.

But then it's tough to explain why our defense still played so shitty against these four (five really) QB's
  1. Kirk Cousins: decent middle tier guy who plays hot and cold.
  2. Cam Newton: Former MVP that was playing much better when the season began and we played him. But he's really just not that good now.
  3. Garopollo: We actually did a good job on him. It's the defenses lone victory against a QB this season.
  4. Mullens: and then in the same game where we did good, we totally collapsed when Mullens came in and he lit us up for a huge stat line in just one quarter of football.
  5. Fitzmagic: He's a decent QB who also plays extremely hot and cold. He was having a nice year before Tua was given the team. But we still shouldn't have allowed him 315 yards passing.
Who can figure it out? Not me. I just think we've played at least half our games against some top tier QB's so that can partially explain the high number of passing yards we give up. But that's just an excuse really. This team just needs to play better. I guess the good news is that we are ranked dead last as a defense so the only way we can go is up.
