PITTSBURGH - After skating through the first two games of the Eastern Conference quarterfinal without arguably their most consistent playoff performer from last spring, help may soon be on the way.

According to Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren, James van Riemsdyk began skating Sunday - rehabbing from foot surgery - and is a possibility to return to practice with the team as early as Saturday.

Van Riemsdyk's status for a return in the first round remains up in the air.

Although the news that Sestito is close to returning is good for the team for depth purposes, hearing that JVR is finally out of his boot is fantastic. It takes time for players returning from injury to build up their conditioning again, so it would be surprising if he was able to return before the start of the second round of the playoffs.

I would rather JVR than Wellwood at this point if he is healthy and can log 15 minutes a night. Wellwood isn't a liablility, but he is a rookie and JVR has had some success in the playoffs before.

Id say keep Welleood and lose Rinaldo. Zac played a combined 10:41 TOI in both games so far, and has taken 2 penalties. The man can hit and start a fire, but is a liability. Not to mention Wellwood has been pretty good.

ha he barely touched someone and got a 4 minute minor at the end of the game.

I could see if this guy did anything out there that we dont have now but the roster we are playing with since he went down has been playing at a huge winning clip and he will come in and mess with our chemistry

Rinaldo brings grit and bordwork in his 4 to 6 minute and JVR brings invisbility. It's no coincidence we started winning at a high clip since Mr Potential went down.

What exactly makes you say JVR is a good player??? He does nothing and hasnt done anything in college or the pros except for 1 good 4 game stretch of scoring and nothing else. But yes we have had this conversation and i want him to stay as far away from this current team as possible. the only players i want to see come back right now is Mezz and Bourdon. Our offense is scoring like 8 goals a game do we really need another forward.
