Broncos safety Justin Simmons informed the team earlier this week he will be signing his franchise tender, a source confirmed Friday. The Broncos’ best defensive player last year (93 tackles and a team-high four interceptions), Simmons is seeking a long-term deal ahead of Wednesday’s 2 p.m. deadline. By signing the tag, Simmons guarantees his salary of $11.441 million.

I haven't seen any confirmation. Just a few sources saying that it is going to happen. Good news if true though.

I have no doubt he will reach a long term deal at some point. Tender for now is fine with me. Not too worries about this contract getting done long term.

We have until Wednesday to get a deal done or we have to wait until next year. I have to think the league wide income uncertainty may keep this from getting done.

I guess there is some very real uncertainty around the future of the salary cap. The NFL and the NFLPA are in negotiations about how to deal with a projected income loss and they don't even know how accurate the projections can be. So maybe that is causing a ripple effect, complicating contract talks.

As noted by my several posts on this subject - that were avoided like a Covid outbreak.

Ummm.... I hate to break it to you, but the COVID outbreak isn’t actually being “avoided” as well as it should be...

His agent must not have a clue next year the salary may drop a lot ..they are going to be jack asses/taking a knee and that will have me more than likely watching just the Broncos at best.

Crowd size my guess will be 1/3. there will be less money.

All player's wages will be less as well so he will be all right I guess after thinking about it.

Not quite. Tagging next year involves an increase of 120% I believe. So unless players take a pay cut similar to the loss in cap space, he's going to be more expensive next year under a tag.

Yes, but still about $2.5 million shy of Simmon's asking price now.
