They would need to make some cuts first.

Morgan Burnett is a likely cut, and Bud Dupree might get chopped if Houston is signed. His 9.2 million tender isn't guaranteed.

Then there would be a Ben extension, that would free up money.

But yeah, they have to make some moves first.

Why? He'd be far and away the best pure pass rusher the team has had in quite some time, and he still has some gas left in the tank

Which would make a questionable secondary look better instantly......

he averages about 10 games a year .... he's brittle. that's the only downfall. when he's on the field, he's still got a good pass rush and is pretty good in run D

Its actually hard to evaluate players coming out of Bob Sutton's system. Will he be better than Bud Dupree? Sure, you take that risk every time.

Will he be around and healthy during a playoff run? :noidea:

I still think they're holding onto Burnett as draft insurance but that's definitely possible. Ben getting an extension could also free up some space.

Burnett wants out because he wants to start, and doesn't want to play the hybrid linebacker role that Tomlin tried to fit him in.

But he did sign a contract, and if he wants out that bad, maybe he can return some money....

Yeah, I know. Haha.

Yeah but at what price? And he’s aging, he’s still good but slowing down.

At this point it's a twitter rumor. Lots of BS during the offseason on twitter.
