You know why these playoffs week uniquely interesting? None of the 8 teams left are among those 4-6 teams that have won almost all the recent titles.

The most recent was the Sixers in 1983. Before that the Bucks in 1971. Before that the Hawks in 1958 when they were in St Louis.

The other 5 teams have never won

In a league where literally 2/3 of the titles have been won by 2 teams, and like 85% by 6 teams, it's kind of cool.

Because, except for the Nuggets, all of the best teams from last year are out because of the shortened off-season.

But mostly to mock boneheads who claim that last years playoffs should have an asterisk.

You play with what you have, shortened off-season or not, everyone is dealing with the same thing.. There will be a team win the Championship that haven't won in a while, and I like that. So the front runners are gone, deal with it.

They had a stat the other night that 2 of the teams have never even made a finals before.

I actually like it too. If it can't be the Lakers, then I want someone new. I'm rooting for the Suns because they're my 2nd favorite team since I was 8 (they were actually my favorite team for the first 2 or 3 NBA games I ever saw). Plus, they've been to the finals twice and in each of those series participated in 2 or the greatest games I've ever seen.

But there were a couple of folks on here trying to say last years playoffs had an asterisk because of the bubble. So the asterisk is for them and you just messed it up making me explain all of that. lol

The bubble has nothing to do with the asterisk, it’s who won.

Yeah. The truth is that both seasons deserve an asterisk because they were different.

That is what an asterisk is for. You have a long list of NBA seasons and you see an asterisk beside the ones that were notably different in some way to indicate a footnote. Both 2020 and 2021 clearly were different and would both have footnotes explaining those differences.

That doesn’t make the accomplishment of winning a title tainted or less impressive in any way.

I don’t know where the notion of an asterisk season being somehow less than an ordinary season started. Maybe it was Roger Maris’ 61? But it shouldn’t be that way.

I remember back in 99 when the Spurs won their first title, there was a certain NBA Head Coach saying it deserved an asterisk because of the strike-shortened season.

Phil Jackson. Of the Los Angeles Lakers.

The last time the Nets (NY) won a title they were still in the old ABA (red, white & blue ball)...(twice with Julius Erving in '74, & '76)

The Jazz made it to b2b championship series' in the late 90's, but went up against the Bulls and some dude named Michael Jordan.
Chicago won both in 6 games.

Phoenix made it there in '76 and lost to Boston in 6...and again in '93..but like Utah, they also faced the Bulls. The Suns also lost that series in 6.

I saw that stat somewhere, either on ESPN or TNT.

By cool, I assume you mean crappy, lol? We get to wait for the Clippers to falter again, Sixers have already lost one to the Hawks, the Bucks forgot that the 2nd round has already started, etc. Nets vs Suns/Jazz winner?

What's cool is no matter what happens it won't be the usual teams in the finals.

It's cool in that I no longer feel it a necessity to stay up until nearly 2AM to watch Lakers home games finish.
