Do we have to start looking at Panik as a ROY candidate? What if he finishes the year batting .335?

I was going to post something very similar to this in the GDT.

Then I looked at the NL rookies and realized that he has pretty much no chance.

IMHO, ROY is a PURELY statistical award. It is not like MVP where the story is part if the story.

I would put these guys ahead of Panik at this point...

DeGrom
Hamilton
Peralta
D'Arnaud
Soler (maybe)

Panik is a stud, but he simply does not have the ABs to compete with a decent NL class.

He'll probably get a few mentions on a couple west coast ballots but that will be about all.

How many names per ballot?

I know there are 10 on an MVP ballot, and 5 on a CY ballot (I think). Does ROY have 3 names?

That's what I was trying to remember. I think it is 3.

Just looked it up. It is 3. 5 points for first, 3 for second and 1 for third.

Thanks.

If he continues to raise his average and put up MVP numbers over the next couple weeks, he MAY steal a first place or two, but in reality, I think he should just hope to get a few thirds. Hamilton and DeGrom, I think, have the 1s and 2s sealed up, with Peralta currently getting the 3s.

I agree with you there. Coming up late is gonna hurt but any mention of his name on the ballots gets his name out there for the rest of the country to see.
