His career feels a little disappointing given how it started (he had three 5+ WAR seasons in 2006-2008), but still a damn good career. I loved watching him, I find players with a lot of doubles/triples/stolen bases very exciting. Brian Roberts (though I thought he hit more triples than he actually did) and Jimmy Rollins also fit that mold.

He’s a woman beater who held on too long. But he was the man who gave Craig Kimbrel more trouble than anyone when Kimbrel was at his strongest

Long overdue, hes been a shell of his former self for 3 or 4 years now. Still, solid player who was fun as hell hell early in his career.

As a human being Jose Reyes gets an F

As a MLB'er he gets an A, not a hall of famer, but was the type of exciting player that mlb is sorely lacking today. When Jose hit one in the gap, it was a lot of fun to see his wheels turning going for that triple.

I had a teacher back in high school who was a Mets fan that swore up and down that Jose Reyes was a better SS than Derek Jeter. We all had to laugh.

his best years, he was a .790 OPS guy.

2005-2011

.293/.345/.445

3 seasons over .800 OPS

solid career, fast as hell, slick defender.

Lots of unfilled hype with this guy. He was supposed to revolutionize the position. I will remember him as a physically gifted athlete who was a wife beater and sat out the final game of the 2011 season to secure his brittle bitch batting title.

Well he was.

Jose Reyes defensive runs saved above average: -60 in 16 seasons
Derek Jeter defensive runs saved above average: -165 in 12 seasons (wasn't available for first 12 years of career)

Don't believe in defensive runs saved? Fine, I present UZR

Jose: -7.9
Derek: -66.1 (13 seasons accounted for)

Every advanced metric points towards Reyes being the "superior defender". I wouldn't have wasted my time looking for it if it was anybody else, but it's a well known fact that Jeter is the worst defensive shortstop of all time so that was easy to prove.

Agree, not a HOF guy but was pretty exciting to watch, and yeah, lacked judgement in personal matters, like a lot of other pro athletes.

I got to see him up close at a Cyclones game one year, when he was coming back up for his second stint with the Mets. I gave him a thumbs up, and he returned it. My son thought that was the coolest thing in the world at the time

The triple king almost made it, Sam Crawford. Surprised he only had 97 HR's though lol.

He was pretty good in that first run with the Mets but as a player the first thing I think of with him was that debacle when him and other big names went to the Marlins in 2012 and then dumped to Toronto after it completely flopped.

Good ballplayer, shitty human being.

And yet somehow he got nominated by the Mets as their Man of the Year a couple years back.
