Then again, the magic that Giolito has ridden so far this year could burn out at any moment. Can't overlook the fact that he had a 6.13 ERA last year.

its looking like his 2012 season all over again. more hits/9 than k/9. hes getting hit at a .311 clip his last 14. on the season, he has a .327 Babip. hard luck. balls are finding holes on him. thats about 27 points over his career of .300.

Thing is, he's made a lot of significant strides versus 2018. His K/9 has gone from a lousy 6.49 to 10.56, he's cut the walks down from 4.67 BB/9 to 2.89. The .249 BABIP and 6.6% HR/FB rate probably aren't sustainable, but even then his xFIP still comes out to a very good 3.71 (his FIP is at 2.70). He's probably not keeping an ERA close to 2, but right now I'd say he looks like a legitimate All-Star caliber pitcher. It's not uncommon for top pitching prospects to suck in their first 1-2 seasons (or sometimes more) before figuring out how to get major league batters out.
