is doing an amazing job in Chicago so far. I'm really pleased for him, he's a good guy and a good coach. Really both offensively and defensively they are outperforming their talent levels. I wasn't against letting him go, but will always be thankful for the job he did turning around the Broncos from truly dark days.

I will appreciate what John Fox did for our organization as well. The combination of him and John Elway helped us come out of maybe the darkest moments in Broncos history to where we are now of being a Super Bowl contender almost every single season so far.

John Fox though reminds me of one of my college professors. He told me that in ministry there are certain situations that fit your skills. For him it was he was great at building up a dying church. As soon as they got to about 200-250 members though it went beyond his skills and he would leave. With Fox he is great at taking a bad team that is in chaos and helping to stabilize them and make them competitive again. I don't think he is the type of coach though that can make the tough and aggressive decisions needed to win a Championship. Our 2012 season is a great example in there is no doubt in my mind we were the best team in the league. We had a top-5 offense and defense and special teams wasn't too bad either. When a big decision needed to be made though at the end of the game with 2 timeouts left only needing a field goal he decided to take a knee. He just couldn't make the big decisions that were needed in those situations.

So while I will always remember these past 4 years with great joy I will also remember them for missing a great window to win it all. I wish him luck in Chicago (except this week of course).

Couldn't agree more. He is an amazing bandaid coach and watching us come back to relevance was great. I believe this was the sentiment about him in Carolina also. Best of luck to him from next week on as Chicago seems like a perfect fit for his conservative style

Sometimes he gets himself in trouble by being overly conservative. That cost the Bears the game against the Lions several weeks back. Fox also made a big blunder not using his timeouts near the end of regulation of that game. That left the Bears only about 20 seconds to go down the field to tie the game with a fieldgoal. Cutler is great at late 4th quarter drives, so somehow he got them into easy FG range with that tiny amount of time left. He even got them down to the 5 yard line, but with only 4 seconds left they couldn't risk another play so they took the FG to go to overtime. But if Fox had just used his timeouts, they would have had plenty of time to score the game winning TD. It was the worst mismanagment of time I've ever seen!

But other than that game, Fox has done a great job with the Bears. No one expected them to even be near .500. Their defense is improving and Cutler has clicked with Fox/Gase big time. Fox is a very good coach overall and has the Bears going in the right direction. They still have a slim chance this year, but I'll be VERY surprised if Fox does not make them a major contender next season. He's turning around that franchise very quickly after the Trestman debacle.

I made the same point to a coworker of mine who is a Bears fan. Fox will raise them to a respectable level but they will likely stall out once they get there. Fox was the right guy for the Broncos when he came here. There is no question about that. But it was also time to move on from him when the Broncos did, too.

Things haven't gone as smoothly as we hoped here in Denver but that's to be expected in a time of transition. This team is still 7-2 and in a position to win the AFC West for a 5th straight year though, despite all the changes. That's pretty impressive.

He has been to 2 SBs with 2 different teams. I think that puts him above bandaid. IMO

I agree. Fox is a very good coach. I do think he's best suited on reclamation projects, but that's certainly not all he's capable of. A break here or there and Fox could have won two Super Bowls with two different teams. He's no slouch.

You are right he has had that. I do think he is one of the more respected coaches in the league. As Bronco fans though we definitely got to witness his short comings as a coach shine through. 1) His being conservative possibly cost the Broncos a Super Bowl in 2012. I know they still had a couple more game they would have had to win after the Baltimore game but his late game decisions were some of the worst I have seen. He played not to lose and we saw that a few times here in Denver even with Manning as his QB. 2) He was very hesitant to ever play rookies or young players over the veterans. For the most part other than Fox's first year we saw almost every draft pick ride the bench all year. They only came in if injury allowed it. 3) The whole coaching up players side of things wasn't always there. We saw a few players develop under his watch but not enough.

Again all-around a very good coach. I"m just not sure he is the guy I pick if I am thinking Super Bowl. He has yes been there but I do know during our Super Bowl week players complained quite a bit after with the whole Super Bowl practice schedule. They did not feel like they were very well prepared for the game by the coaching staff. There were a lot of things that happened during the game that they were not even close to ready for.

Bears coaching staff is legit, save fer maybe Special Teams.

It sucks cuz it'll be tough to keep em' together. What Fangio has done with that D is nothing short of remarkable and Gase deserves a ton of credit in the impact made on Cutler.

I do like the staff. Gase was the one guy I really hated losing. Elway did make a small bit of effort to actually keep Gase where the others he couldn't quite wait to get them out the door. Fangio and what he did for the 49ers especially last year with all the injuries and everything else going on was down right impressive as well. So yeah I do like the staff and like I said I do like Fox I just think he has some glaring weaknesses that have kept some very talented teams from really dominating at times.

.
We have already seen the conservative coach you mentioned and it cost us a win maybe even 2 already. But he is playing our young guys all over the team so that is different then what you seen.

This is almost exactly what I was going to say. Also for what its worth i think he is great for turning downtrodden teams around just not what I envision winning us a Super Bowl

Our first year he did that too. We didn't have any choice because we were lacking so much talent that we had something like 4 rookies starting his first year anda bunch of 2nd year guys. In fact I think that first year we had something like 9 players from the past 2 drafts starting with others contributing.

Good coach ( Fox ) but too passive. Gase, great coach especially for qbs. Hopefully they both give Denver and the staff due credit after they get their butts whooped this Sun. ;)
