I learned nothing from the article but would have added that he hung onto Trickett the O-Line coach way too long and it killed them. Trickett alienates the players, high school coaches hate him and he can't coach players up.

That hurt them more than anything. Francois could have gotten it done and been decent if he wasn't running for his life and getting killed.

The question is why did he keep Trickett for so long instead of firing him? That what I wanna know

If I was the AD at FSU, I would blame Fisher for all my problems too...so I could keep my fat salary for a few more years...despite my dismal personal performance.

We have a new AD this year. Having that dummy AD head for the NCAA was our first step in eradicating
the stain of affirmative action from the school. Phase Two will occur in November if we don't have 8 or 9 wins
and be competitive in all 12 games.

Based on your criteria, Phase 2 is a certainty.

Three reasons:

1. They had a history going way back.
2. He was relatively cheap and Jimbo had a rough time keeping coaches because the SEC poached them on a regular basis. FSU capped what he could spend on assistants and he couldn't compete on the salary front.
3. Trickett kissed his ass and blinded him a bit.

FSU is in some trouble. I can't remember a team winning a national title and falling from grace so shortly afterwords.

Texas comes to mind.
Thats a good one. It's amazing that teams can win one, which should make recruiting kids dramatically easier, and fall from grace like this. It's not even like a slight decline. 3-4 years later they're struggling to make bowl games.

FSU did not cap what he could spend on assistants. His last year we had the 7th highest payroll in CFB

They did under Jimbo and that’s why you lost multiple DC’s to SEC teams plus numerous position coaches. There was a window where everyone in the conference was raiding Jimbo’s staff. That’s a fact.

That's what I was thinking. Pretty close to the same time frame.

While Mack probably wasn't as blatant about covering for misbehavior, etc as Jimbo, he did allow a coddling country club atmosphere to expand to levels that weren't good for a team.

I had forgotten he left.
