Jered Weaver slated to throw simulated game Wednesday
In his recovery from a broken nonpitching elbow, Angels ace Jered Weaver will face a big test Wednesday 05/22 in extended spring training. He's expected to pitch a simulated game (dailynews.com).
If all goes well there, it's possible Weaver will then head out on a minor-league rehab assignment. He's only made two starts this season, going 0-1 with a 4.91 ERA and 1.36 WHIP.
His presence in the Angels' rotation is paramount. In the past three seasons, Weaver has been an All-Star and finished in the top five of AL Cy Young voting each season. Last year, he went 20-5 with a 2.81 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 142 strikeouts in 188 2/3 innings.
Angels starters this season are 10-20 with a 4.94 ERA and 1.53 WHIP, so, yes, they really need their ace back.
