This is the former Mets closer that got a lifetime ban for failing 3 PED tests. Guess he was let back in.

This is a second(well, 4th, I guess) chance that he'd be wise not to waste.

Could be a good move for the Red Sox if he can still pitch(been suspended a few years now), but probably not the best publicity move.

he hasn't thrown an MLB pitch since 2015 and it's not like he was great before the suspensions either.

I doubt the Red Sox are concerned with publicity. They have never been more popular. Plus, it's hard for them to look down their noses at someone for PEDs considering the players that they employed for their first WS win.

A solid 2015....0.00 era, undefeated and a fantastic 0.818 WHIP.......

Will be interesting to see how this works out. Guy has a checkered past so hoping that's over now.

Seems desperate.

they kinda are...they are up against the super tax again and even modest improvements count heavy against their payroll now. They need a few cheap arms like Mejia or Carson Smith to work out.

DD has always been interesting when building a bullpen.

Not like this is risky, just a minor league deal. But it'd surprise me if he makes the opening day roster.

So terrible for the haves of the world. If you weren't before, you have officially become the Yankees.

Most likely the Red Sox's top 2 closer candidates come April will be Brasier and Barnes. Both were solid last year.
Both will be given a shot to win the closer's job in spring training.

Meijia has an uphill battle in spring just to make the final 25. I doubt he even grabs a bullpen spot.
