Yeah, I was about to post this.

I like it. He should be cheap. We need depth, and he'll provide some veteran experience for what should be quite a few young guys playing around him.

He was quite effective once he got in there last season. Stopped as much of the bleeding as any one DT could by himself, in the midst of that disaster.

I agree, solid signing. He came on strong at the end of the season. Give him a full training camp and pre season, with a now solid rotation with Paea. Perfect.

That leaves 3-tech (I see the Bears resigning one of either Collins or Melton) and DE. Hopefully, one of the two will be a F/A acquisition along with a Safety. That would then cut the draft wide open. We could go Best Available.

#Bears DT Jeremiah (Jay) Ratliff's deal per #NFL source: 2 yrs, $4 M, $600 K guaranteed.

This is what is being reported.

$2 mil per....if that's true, then yes, that's a decent deal for us. He's a good versatile guy, reliable, I like it.

Doesn't tell us anything about 4-3 vs 3-4, since he has played well in both. Maybe they aren't lying when they say they are really going to try to play both?

1 down, about 5 more D linemen to go...

He seemed to come on late in the season, and it looks to be a fairly cheap deal, so I think it's a great sign....though it may be foreshadowing to letting Melton walk.

And when he did come on peppers also played better. DT is a position that feeds to stats of other players. Glad we got one, Meltons lackadaisical rehab program got Ratliff signed first. Smart move to let the outsiders set the market for wooten and melton, but would like to see Corey back.

Ya, Melton seems to have bitched out a little bit...with his apparent lack of desire, and recent altercations with the law, plus considering what they've already invested in him, I could see his ass in Dallas by the end of next week.

I'm glad they signed Ratliff. Hopefully they can get Melton and a few other good DLinemen.

Let's go Bears!

hate to lose Melton but he is in no way worth 8 M a season.

I agree, and I don't think anyone will offer him near that. For certain not until he is cleared to play which won't occur until a bit after f/a period begins. I doubt a team will hold back coin in the hope he clears and is physically back 100% so I wonder if even big money will be around by the time he can actually talk money.

Will be interesting to see how it pans out.

I'd like to see Wooton back as well. A young solid player. You can't get too many of those.
Just would like to see mainly @ DE.

Good point.
I personally don't think he'll ever be the player he once was. But who knows. I wouldn't bet a fat contract on him.
